I'm Calling In Drunk...

Holy crap - my head hurts. I might post later, but I doubt it. Congrats to President-Elect Obama. Things don't look good in California - it looks like gay marriage will be banned. Thank you Mormon "church"!

Consider this an open thread - tell us about your night last night. I'd share my experience, but I don't really remember...

  1. YAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!! and BOOOOOOOOOOOOO to California. BUT, I think this country might be on it's way to a Big Big Change and it's so badly needed/wanted.

I didn't watch tv all day long....I was just too nervous. But I finally turned it on last night about 8pm and watched off and on all night long. I finally woke my kid up at midnight and made him watch the speech of his next President.

It's so cool to be a part of history and to see history made.

We will always remember where we were when Obama was elected President.

I am so PROUD to be an American today!!!!!!

  3. When I didn't see you here first thing this morning (I'm PST) I figured this might be the case...

Can prop 8 still be decided, late ballots and all? What do they do with all the marriages that took place since the court decision? Can it still go to the Supreme Court?
I'll be looking for all that after I get home today.

  4. Poor you David. I'm so happy today though. You can read my blog post to get a hint of how I feel for my family and my children. Last night and today my heart was/is full. My Nana called me crying last night with tears of joy and then again this morning with even more tears of joy as she woke up thinking of her life as a young girl in the south. I'm a happy girl and a hopeful girl for the future of my children. I also have a headache from too much red wine. Darn!:)

  5. prop H8 is the only dark spot on one very magical night...

i wish i could have recorded the street sounds here in ATL to share w/ all my online peeps. the people here were screaming, honking horns, and dancing til... well, you still hear it sporadically, but it was steady til about 5am!!! i can't help but walk around smiling. and for once in the past eight years, the world celebrates WITH us for a goddamned change! some of my friends in europe stayed as awake and as glued to their tv sets as my american friends.

OMGOMGOMG!!! PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA!!! typing it feels so delish!

PS: my prediction was that mccain, regardless of how large the lead, wouldn't concede, and if he did, he certainly wouldn't be classy enough to congratulate barack obama. kudos, seriously, to mccain for proving me wrong so eloquently. he even teared up, genuinely imho, when speaking about barack's grandmother's passing. last night, mccain made me so proud, and i am sad that he didn't show us that side of himself throughout the campaign. and, as bitchy as this may be, i was IN NO WAY sorry to see palin crying like a baby... SUCK IT, SARAH!!! WE NO LIKEE!!! mccain should have made her stand up there and apologize, but whatevs.

ok, long comment, but DIGI-HUGS to all of you! i feel like hugging the world at the moment, LOL.

  6. though my night was spent watching the results alone, it was a great and magnificent night!!!! unfortunately, living in california as a student, i am so very sad that prop 8 passed. sadly, similar propositions seem to have passed in arizona and florida :( 5 steps forward 2 steps back, but we are still moving forward! AND i believe there are now 17 women in the senate :) another great success. i will just keep fighting against discrimination and hate! we'll get there one day

  7. I cried during PRESIDENT Obama's acceptance speech from happiness and relief! This is a big step toward unity, and I look forward to living with hope instead of fear they way it's been for too long.

I can't believe that happened in California. Why in the hell can't they realize this is depriving citizens of their civil rights? I'm so tired of these ignorant douchenozzles!

  9. Very disappointed by the Prop 8 results. Damn. :(

That said, had an interesting conversation while at the polls with the lady working for Obama and the Republican committeepeople there. Not one of them would have voted for Prop 8, were it in our state.

I mean, sure it would pass here, but I was encouraged by the mini-show of bipartisanship against discrimination. And it was all because each of them KNEW and cared for someone who happened to be gay. Very, very cool.

  10. Now for a true WTF election day moment. I would like to know what parents are "feeding" their children. Yesterday at my 6 year old's school they held a mock election.

Let me preface this with I am an OBAMA supporter to the core however, I haven't spent much time talking with my daughter about the candidates. I answer her questions and think she can make an informed decision when she truly understands the issues. (Also I wanted to see what the school was "feeding" her). I do live in liberal VT after all.

Anyway, when I picked her up from school she was excited about voting. She was so proud when she announced "I voted for John McCain". I was about to say how great it was when another child (maybe a 1st grader) walked by and yelled "then you voted for war!"

WTF!!!! I cannot believe it! What were his parents telling him? And we wonder why we have such hate in this country?

    CONGRATULATIONS PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!!

  11. Last night was a night of amazing highs and lows for me. President-Elect Obama made a magnificent speech, filled with hope and joy, pointing to an amazing future. I sat alone in my room, checking the internet, flipping through the stations to make sure it were true, that grace had won and truth will come to pass.

I have a hard time understanding, however, that a country that can elect hope and strength can also vote for negativity and fear, re-electing people like Ted Stevens and Michelle Bachman.

And then there were the results to Prop 8 in California, as well as similar propositions in Arizona and Florida, making it pretty clear that much of the voting public doesn't seem to mind using something as positive as a constitution to legislate discrimination and separatism, telling me in rather clear language they just don't think I am equal, that I just don't deserve the chance to have what they have. They would rather listen to a group that once stood proudly for polygamous marriage define what love is, that why this 'sacred' right must be kept from me simply because of whom I love.

At times I become frustrated when I think this country was founded and populated by a people trying to escape religious prosecution and now seem to prefer to ignore that history and instead become the bullies on the playground, pushing around those that believe differently than themselves.

So I too am feeling hungover this morning, but not from the green tea I was drinking last night. So I will just take some aspirin, and hope the winds of change will soon be at my back, propelling me forward, instead of pinning me against the wall and taking my breathe away as I watch others take a victory lap.

  12. I was a wreck watching Indiana's results trickle in. I've never seen them come in so slow. I felt good about it though because heavy Democratic Lake county was being counted, and they put Obama over the top. He won with less than a percentage point. My best friend and I drank a bottle of champagne to celebrate (I drank most of it!). But I'm feelin' fine!

  16. Watched at home with the kitties at Chez Ginger! They were so excited to see someone other than a white man become President! My little Jackson even meowed that someday he hopes to become the country's first feline President! It's nice that ALL children can dream now! We stayed up WAY past out bedtime to was the acceptance speech, but it was well worth it!
