What Are Your New Year's Eve Plans?

I will be at home on the couch tonight at midnight with the kitties (pitiful, I know) - something that has become an annual tradition for me.  I grew tired of the crowds and expense of New Year's Eve celebrations at bars long ago - so now I just stay home.

At midnight I'll open one of the windows and listen to the roaring crowds in Times Square (yes, I'm that close) - and then I'll begin 2010.  This past year wasn't the greatest for me - so I'm hoping 2010 will bring all of us good things.

What will YOU be doing tonight?

Tavern On The Green Closes Tonight

A New York City landmark closes its doors tonight.  From NPR:

Tavern on the Green, once America's highest-grossing restaurant, is singing its culinary swan song.

The former sheepfold at the edge of Central Park, now ringed by twinkling lights and fake topiary animals, is preparing for New Year's Eve, when it will serve its last meal. Just three years ago, it was plating more than 700,000 meals annually, bringing in more than $38 million.

But that astronomical sum wasn't enough to keep the landmark restaurant out of bankruptcy court. Its $8 million debt is to be covered at an auction of Baccarat and Waterford chandeliers, Tiffany stained glass, a mural depicting Central Park and other over-the-top decor that has bewitched visitors for decades.

The restaurant may reopen eventually, pending legal battles over the "Tavern on the Green" name and union issues.  Read the entire story HERE.

Add "Eating at Tavern on the Green" to the extremely long list of stuff I never got around to doing.

Birthday Boy - Daniel Sunjata

I remember the first time I saw actor Daniel Sunjata on my TV screen - his gorgeousness literally made me gasp.  He was playing a sailor on shore leave on Sex and the City - and I instantly became smitten.  Sunjata went on to earn a Tony nomination for his role as a gay Major League baseball player in Take Me Out - a show where he did an onstage shower scene completely nekkid!!!  He currently appears on Rescue Me (below) - a show I don't watch even though EVERYONE tells me I should.

Anywhore - Daniel Sunjata turns 38 today.  Happy Birthday!!

Cool Pic of the Day

When I was in college, I had a poster of Georges Seurat's painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” on my dorm room wall (my lame attempt at being "artistic").  Apparently some of the residents of Benoit, Wisconsin are also fans of the painting - because they gathered along the Rock River recently and re-created the neo-impressionist masterpiece.

Pretty cool...

Mazel Tov!

Congratulations to my darling Miss Alaineus and her adorable Mr. Mischief - who GOT MARRIED yesterday!!!  OMG ... I am so very happy for them.

In honor of their big day, I found this Native American (Apache) wedding blessing and I thought it was kind of beautiful...

Now you will feel no rain
For each of you will be shelter to the other.
Now each of you will feel no cold
For each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there is no loneliness for you
For each of you will be companion to the other.
Now you are two persons
But there is one life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place to enter into the days of your togetherness
And may your days be good and long upon the earth.

Cousin-Lovin'

Here in New York, I can't marry the man of my dreams (Franky G, are you listening?) - but I COULD marry my cousin.  As long as my cousin wasn't a man.  That's seriously messed up...

The Taylors Have Broken Up

Us Weekly reports that hot young gayling Taylor Lautner (my gaydar doesn't lie) and singer Taylor Swift have ended their "relationship".

Check out this extremely telling quote:
"It wasn't really developing into anything, and wasn't going to, so they decided they were better as friends," a source close to Swift, 20, tells Us. "There was no chemistry."
Shocking!  I imagine Lautner's people are busy trying to line him up another beard shopping partner best galpal girlfriend as we speak.  I wonder if Renee Zellweger is available - she has TONS of beard experience.  Oh, that's right, Renee is currently "dating" Bradley Cooper.

Gee - talk about "chemistry".
