Lost - ????

Last night's series finale of Lost was extremely satisfying for me.  It was great to see all the old characters again - and even Vincent (the dog).  But the very end COMPLETELY baffled me.  Was everybody dead (or just Jack)?  How did everyone know to go to the church?  And why didn't Ben go inside?

Normally I rely on Tom and Lorenzo for their Lost recaps, but at the end of the finale they tweeted: "WHAT.THE.HELL?" - so maybe they don't have answers either.  UPDATE:  Tom and Lorenzo actually EXPLAIN THINGS BEAUTIFULLY this morning.

Any thoughts?

  1. Here's what I think: Everything ON the island happened. The sideways world from THIS season only happens after Jack dies. What we thought was running parallel to the island story actually came AFTER Jack died beside Vincent. The idea that EVERYONE died at the very beginning of the series makes no sense because then why was Juliet, Desmond, and Penny, who were not on the original flight, in the church at the end?

Ben didn't go inside because he wanted to have a fulfilling experience with Rousseau and Alex that he didn't get in his life on the island.

  2. I'm so glad Tom and Lorenzo do their recaps. I need them to help me process that show!

Dear LORD, how I cried. Art kept looking at me like I was crazy, but when Claire remembered Charlie and Shannon and Sayid found each other and JULIET and SAWYER remembered? Jeebus, I just melted.

Yes, I know I'm shouting, just be glad you don't have to talk to me on the phone!

The idea that we had a chance to see how the character "fix" things in the sideways timeline was very satisfying when I understood what it was. It gave such interesting insight into their perception of themselves. I think Jin and Sun weren't married because, in a way, marriage spoiled their relationship. And the fact that Nadya stayed out of Sayid's reach was pretty revealing.

I could go on and on. A good ending to a great show. I'll miss getting LOST.
