World Cup Takes NYC By Storm

The World Cup is a HUGE deal here in NYC - due to the fact that there are so many people from so many different countries living here.  In my new neighborhood there are Greek, Mexican and Italian flags flying from houses in support of those teams.  And everyone, it seems, is wearing his or her country's colors...

But it's in the bars and restaurants of NYC where people can really enjoy the action.  When Italy plays, crowds descend upon Little Italy.  When South Korea plays, the bars and restaurants of Koreatown get packed.  Etc...

Bar/restaurant owners are LOVING this extra business - and many have created elaborate specials for patrons watching the games.

My feelings about the World Cup, however, can be summed up thusly...

  1. It's a snoozefest! The players aren't even all that hot... most of them are scrawny!

  4. You want World Cup overload? Come to London, the whole city is consumed! 99% of the time I can't be doing with football (yep, football, not soccer!), but during the WC it's nice to watch some of the international hotties having a kickabout.

Personally I can't see the game ever really taking off properly in the USA as it is two halves of 45 minutes each way. That's non-stop, so the networks can't break into it for 3 minutes of adverts every 10 minutes. If they can't do that they're not gonna make any moolah, so they're not gonna show it.

That's a shame cos you'll have to make do with your version of football, and the guys are hidden under so much protective gear you can't actually see them.

Now Rugby...there's a game for hot men - the best bof both worlds, beef and exposed flesh...!
