Project Runway vs. The Fashion NO

Yesterday I caught a mini-marathon of Project Runway Season 4 - and I was struck by how incredibly good that season (and Project Runway in general) was. I watched the Levi's episode, the Wrestling Divas episode, the Metropolitan Museum of Art episode, the "Showcase Showdown" between Chris & Rami, and the Season Finale where Christian "Mango" Siriano presented the fiercest collection in the history of Project Runway.

Now THIS was a reality show cast of talented bitches who were (mostly) likable and created entertaining television...

Even the ones who annoyed me (Victorya, Ricky, Rami) were way more likeable/watchable when compared to these duds ...

Yes, I'm talking about the hapless non-seamstresses from The Fashion NO. Gross. Even Isaac Mizrahi has moved to the "Gross" category after he threw that pissyfit at the Manolo Blahnik Exec/Guest Judge last week...

BTW - go HERE for Tom & Lorenzo's hysterical take on Isaac Vs. The Shoe Queen.

I KNOW Project Runway will be different on Lifetime (and in Los Angeles). But even at it it's worst, Project Runway is good television ... not gross television.

  1. I left note on my Facebook page that this show managed to turn the most colorful designer in fashion into someone very, very grey. The production values are cheap and lack any sort of definition. It just jumps from one dump challenge to the next and the net result is that everyone comes off looking at loose ends....which they probably are, considering how bad the show has been written and executed.

  2. Never really could find out what detailing was so special in last week's dress. Even TLo could not get a really good picture of it.

If you are showcasing fashion then showcase it for gawd's sake. Turn up the lights!

  3. I watched some of that marathon too and fervently believe that Season 4 of PR was the best ever. The whole cast was amazing and the clothes were incredible (and that's from someone who knows absolutely nothing about real fashion). As for the Fashion No, I'm really disliking Isaac now and Kelly is a big zero. Can't wait for PR, even if it is in LA now.

    Hey DD,

I caught the last part of that marathon too, and although viewers gave Season 4 a lot of crap for having no drama in the workroom, it did produce some very good clothes (aside from that menswear challenge). In a weird way, it's my favorite season, especially considering the 'liciousness' that followed.

Sigh, I'm with Kanani as far as what TFS has done for Mizrahi, but with one add-on: he's gray and MEAN. It's a bit of a turnaround considering the persona he seemed to possess in 'Unzipped'. What happened? Age? Experience? Botched role assignment in pre-production?

I'll still watch TFS, but it's like hanging on to the rebound guy until you find someone you really want....

  5. I agree with you all. I keep waiting for it to get better and to have someone prove how great they are and it is not happening. I am ready for the return of PR (any way I can get it).

  6. I agree with you completely. The episodes of The "No" made me cringe. I MISS Project Runway.

  7. That was hilarious on their site! I read blogs I was waiting for an hour for my appointment with a doctor. That Blackberry comes in handy.

One good thing about having watched TFS (what, three times?) is that we'll appreciate the hell out of Project Runway no matter what it's like! IM comes across mean-spirited and grey as some of you mentioned. I've always liked him pretty well, too. He's probably pissed off at having to endure being on that show.

    LOL Good comparison, Lola!!!
