I actually think Lady GaGa is a talented singer. There, I said it. Over the weekend I caught Lady CaCa's performance at the VMA's, and for all of her "LOOK AT ME I'M BEING OUTRAGEOUS"-ness, the Biatch does have a great voice. So why not just sing, instead of singing and smearing blood all over her body?...
Yes, I know ... I know. You CaCa-lovers will say it's "art" and that she is "expressing herself" and "making a statement" - and that's all fine and good. But usually when vocalists aren't strong singers they resort to "showmanship" (Britney Spears, for example). CaCa CAN sing - so why doesn't she just dress normally and dazzle us with her vocals?
Seriously - some of these outfits are unnecessary. Case in point: "Heat Miser's Butt Tampon" (thank you Dlisted) ...

here here. and why is SHE complaining about paparazzi? She was invisible a year ago, right?
ReplyDeleteWell DD, we all have our guilty pleasures, and I guess Lady Dada is one of yours, even if you don't feel too guilty about it.
ReplyDeleteAfter hearing Poker Face for the bazillionth time, I still don't get it. Then again, I don't understand how LiLo can put 'singer & actress' on her CV either.
As for her stage presence, living in a college town, I see some of the most head-scratching performance art you'll ever know. When I saw Lady Dada's bit on the VMA's I was all, "bitch, please!" It's no 'Stigmata in Leather & Crisco' (use your imaginations on that one, boys) and her 'art' falls pretty flat.
It could be worse DD. You could tell me that you are the president of the Official Rene Zellweger Fan Club. THAT may make me reconsider visiting your blog daily.
I agree! She is an incredible singer. She's on my iPod and I listen to her all the time.
ReplyDeleteHer outfits are so extreme. She hasn't been around that long. How do you top some of these costumes so early in a career without becoming a joke?
Her style is cute, it's like she a Misfit from Jem and the Holograms
ReplyDeleteshe has never complained about paparazzi, I think you've missed the jest of the music she writes.
ReplyDeleteSis, what a proud moment to hear you say you actually listened to her sing. As far as her "Art" it is something I will never, ever understand but then again, I'm guilty of being one that has attended my own share of Museums of Modern Art and did enough laughing to be asked to leave.
Her new material coming out in November will be the tale of the tape if she is more than a one trick pony.
Is it me, or did anyone else notice the artistic clothing other performers blessed us with? Elton John in a duck outfit? Madodo with her stupid tit cones? Do I need to go on?
I am not a fan of hers like that, but the performance is all about making a statement for her...she is gonna let it be known that she isn't a typical artist...
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAhaa! heat miser's butt tampon! FUNNY!
ReplyDeleteYa, she might have a great voice, but who can tell? focus on the music then and quit all that other crap.
XOXOXOX
Honestly, I think it's because her face isn't conventionally pretty. It's practically a requirement for pop singers to be pretty these days. By making such extreme fashion choices (many of which obscure her face) she's grabbing control of the visual element of her persona. She might be ridiculed for the choices she makes, but she won't be dismissed as not pretty enough. Like most pop singers, her tracks are so heavily engineered that it's almost impossible to know what she actually sounds like, or even whether or not she's capable of singing in tune.
ReplyDeleteComing in a day late, I realize, but I actually like her music. It's got a good beat and you can dance to it. :) But I know a lot of people who can't stand her. Or at least, say they can't. Sometimes I think she's the new "love to hate" celebrity icon.
ReplyDeleteAs for her outfits, I admit that I pointed and laughed along with the rest of the planet when I was watching the VMAs. But in all honestly, I like that there are people out there who push the envelope. OK, not so much push it as drive it off a cliff and jump up and down on the shredded remains of said envelope. But you know what I mean.
I like that she has her own "identity". It gets old seeing all the young skanks dressed in the latest fashions. How many Lindsey Lohans, Paris Hiltons, Brittany Spears, and Lauren Conrads do we need?
It's artistry, showmanship and entertainment.
