Not Dead Yet!

I went to the Doctor yesterday for the follow-up visit that I've been putting off for weeks. The same follow-up visit that I thought my doctor was going to tell me I had "Die-A-Beet-Us"...

To refresh your memory, when I made the appointment one of the (idiot) receptionists said "Yeah, you need to come in, 'cause you diabetic". My response: "I AM?!?" - followed by her rushing to get me off the phone.

So I prepared for the worst when I went to see Dr. A. Of course, since I am so terrified by anything that has to do with doctors, I ALWAYS prepare for the worst.

I sat down with Dr. A. and we discussed my test results. We got to the end, and he never mentioned anything about "Die-A-Beet-Us". So I told him what the receptionist said, and he replied, "No, your sugar was just fine". Take THAT, Wilford Brimley!!!

I also had Dr. A. fill out the Customer Assistance paperwork for my très expensive Crazy Pills (Pristiq) - thanks to everyone for the suggestion. Now I have to wait to see if Wyeth approves me - keep your fingers crossed.

Finally, I had an echocardiogram done. This was not a pleasant experience.

First of all, you White Meat Monday fans would have loved the technician who did my echocardiogram. He was this strapping Russian guy with sandy-brown hair and relatively attractive razor-stubble. But, being Russian, he had the bedside manner of a KGB agent with a toothache. And he was wearing two-tone acid-washed jeans under his white lab coat. No. Just NO.

Anywhore, he told me to take my shirt off (which I try not to do - even in the privacy of my own home) and lay on the table on my side - butt facing him. THEN HE TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS. Hell, if I'd have know about THIS, I'd make a doctors appointment every week!

But(t) NO - he leaned up against me and reached around and poked his ultrasound probe all over my chest. It was uncomfortable, and I was covered in jelly when it was over. Which, now that I think about it, could describe some of my earliest sexual encounters. It looked kinda like the picture below, if the skinny guy was a fat guy, and the female technician was a Russian with no personality...

I go back in early December to get the results.

  1. WOW...good for you for bucking up and going back to the doctor, AND for having the test. I'm sure all will be fine. I'm sorry that Boris Badinoff was an unpleasant technician. If only he didn't have on his acid wash jeans when he pressed against you. *sigh*

  2. Just out of curiosity, why do you go back for test results and pay(?)for a second office visit, I never go back for results as I can do all of my scheduling, RX refills that do not require checkup, and get all of my test results including those with flags and recomendations for actions for me to take online with a system set up by MultiCare which includes my primary care Doc, my hematology oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgeon, urologist, all the labs, blood etc, and radiology/imaging in one 'My Chart' web page and they are connected so there is never any worry about sending or carrying paper work from one to the other; plus I get reminders(by phone also if I have an appointment in 3-5 days or for some reason scheduling has had to be changed) of when I need to make an appointment of be at one. All in all you should check and see if the same or similar system in available, even my RX are e-mailed to my pharmacy of choice.Just a suggestion that if available can really make life a litle simpler and easier.

  3. PFM7 -

Luckily, I do have health insurance through my job (it has no prescription coverage, however) - and my copay is only $25. I HAD to go to the office this time, because I needed to do the echo, and I needed the doctor to sign my Customer Assistance paperwork for my Pristiq.

But you are right, unless he needs to see me, I should see what can be done over the phone or via computer. It would certainly cut down on my stress levels.

Speaking of - the Doc also said that my blood pressure was DOWN from last time. But that was probably because I was almost dead from not eating all day :)

    XOXOXOXOXOXO

  7. It takes a month to read an EKG?? Sounds like the whole clinic is Russian! I hope there's nothing wrong... you could be dead by then! And then I'd actually have to WATCH Project Runway because your recaps would be no more! So please take care of yourself, dear!

  8. Yeah, it's even less fun when you're a woman getting an echo. The poor technician tried his best not to look at me lest I think he was checking out my boobs.

I'm glad you finally went back. And that you don't have diabeetus :) How's the cholesterol?

  11. Glad that things are pretty good, and hope future news will also be good.

Now that the niceties are out of the way, I'd like to know what the FUCK that receptionist thought she was doing by telling you that you were diabetic!!!! Other people are being nice in their comments, but I am not. She had no business telling you such a thing, and seriously...that doctor needs to know what his receptionist is telling people, because that is irresponsible and horrible. I am appalled. XOXO Beth

  12. Glad you got good news! That's a relief!

Be sure to have them give you copies of your tests and lab results and keep them in a folder. I've found that helpful more than once.

Love you! Love your good news!

And what up with the receptionist? I bet it feels great to have a clean bill of health...

Glad you are healthy. Now to feel well that is the big challenge.
