This is so true. Same with "Don't take this the wrong way but ..." or "I don't mean to be rude but ..."
Also, I thought "Offence" was incorrect, but apparently that's the spelling used in Britain. Which is just stupid. No offense, of course...

LOL! No offence but the Queen's English came first and is the correct spelling, hurrmph (always got caught between countries with the English/Amercian spelling thing}.
Another phrase I wonder about - "to tell you the truth" - in my head I say, "you mean everything else you've said is a lie?!"
My pet hate is 'with all due respect'. This is usually followed by out and out rudeness and slander. I tend to make a point of saying 'With no due respect' if I really want to dismiss someone. It generally throws them for a second, but then they totally understand what I think of them.
I remember people in college saying things like, "I love him to death, but ... he's a dysfunctional, alcoholic asshole." Or something like that.
