Friday Lunch

Friday, March 23, 2012

Just A Light Lunch ...

... consisting of a grilled cheese sandwich made with a glazed doughnut instead of bread.

And YES, if I lived in Cincinnati (where these are served) I would totally try one (or two). Diet be damned.

Denny's Now Offering "Lighter Fare"

Denny's has decided to get on the low-cal/low-carb/low-fat/zero-guilt bandwagon with two new light sandwiches:  the Mac ‘n Cheese Big Daddy Patty Melt (above): A hamburger patty topped with creamy mac ‘n cheese and “zesty Frisco sauce” stuffed inside a grilled cheese sandwich on potato bread. And make sure you ask for some gravy for your French Fries!!!

And for you healthy cheese-lovers out there - how about Denny's new Fried Cheese Melt: Four fried mozzarella sticks stuffed inside a grilled cheese sandwich. It's like eating delicious air, it's so light!!!

And if you can't decide on one or the other - go ahead and order BOTH!!

Another Reason To Hate Urban Outfitters

Somebody alert Miley Cyrus! Did you know that Urban Outfitters sells hipster Ramen noodles (with edgy, ironic instructions!) for $5.00 a pack?? Yep, the same Ramen you can get for 25 cents (or less) at the grocery store will cost you 5 bucks (ON SALE for $2.99!) at Urban Outfitters.

Daily Pizza Delivery Can Save Your Life

An 82-year-old Memphis woman who ordered pepperoni pizza every day from Dominos is alive today because of it. From Gawker:
Jean Wilson, an elderly woman living alone, hadn't called Domino's for her daily delivery in three days, which was highly unusual. Upon coming in to work and hearing that Wilson hadn't been heard from, a deliverywoman named Susan Guy (below) drove over to Wilson's house and discovered that the loyal customer had fallen in her home days prior and had been unable to get up or reach a phone. Guy called an ambulance and Wilson was saved.

Come to think of it - even though I live too far away to eat there regularly, I think the CEO of Arby's (or at least that Oven Mitt thingy) should call me every once in a while, just to check in. Don't you agree??

American States By Food

First we had MOVIES, then TV SHOWS - and now we have American States by Food. Click on the image above to embiggen.

Do you agree with your state's results? New York = Pizza and Pennsylvania = Cheesesteaks, which I can totally agree with. But I have a feeling the people of Pittsburgh may disagree with the whole Philly Cheesesteak thing. My favorite, however, is Nevada (buffets).

Boy Calls 911 To Report a Nasty Dinner Emergency

No.He.Di-int. A 10-year-old boy from Buffalo Grove, IL called 911 this week to complain about the food his father served him for dinner.

The boy dialed 911 about 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, and said while the dinner his father gave him was edible, it wasn't to his liking, Buffalo Grove police Cmdr. Steve Husak said.
Husak didn't know what food was served. The boy's father was at the home at the time of the call, and police did speak to him, Husak said.
An officer advised the boy over the phone of when it is proper to dial 911, but no further action was taken.

No further action was taken? They should have hauled that Dad off to jail for Culinary Cruelty! Shouldn't EVERY child have the right to the specific meal of their choosing every single night of the week? People, let's think OF THE CHILDREN.

Actually, I know exactly what would have happened if I called 911 to report my mother for serving me Quiche Lorraine when I was young...
  • I call 911 and report a town-wide emergency: CODE BLUE - QUICHE COMING OUT OF THE OVEN. ALL UNITS REPORT TO THE DUST HOUSEHOLD IMMEDIATELY.
  • The 911 Dispatcher would have asked me if I was the David who lived on North Street - and if Frank was my father. I answer "yes". She informs me that she and my dad were friends in high school, and instructs me to tell him "hello" and then to go and eat my damn Quiche. I hang up the phone, dejected.
  • My mother, overhearing this exchange, immediately springs into action. When she is finished she dials 911 again - this time to report a murder. MINE.
