"I'm Yoooolaaaaaanda Vega!!"

I am ashamed that I've never posted anything about one of my true obsessions - Yolanda Vega (thanks to Dlisted for reminding me).  Ms. Vega is one of the New York State Lottery announcers, and is known for her signature phrase "I'm Yolanda Vega!".  Miss Yo Yo reported makes a salary of $85,000 per year for drawing numbers (which she pronounces "numbahs" - Brooklyn in da house!) on live TV - which she's been doing for 20 years now.  And after you watch this video (which celebrates her 20th anniversary), you will see that the fabulous Yoooolaaaaaaaanda Vega is WAY underpaid.  Skip to the 1:05 mark if you'd only like to hear her signature shout-out.

Residents of Queens: Prevent Monserrate from Returning To Politics!

Barely a month ago, the New York State Senate voted 53-8 to expel Hiram Monserrate after he was convicted of assaulting his girlfriend ... a conviction that netted him "three years probation, 250 hours of community service, a $1000 fine, and one year of domestic abuse counseling."

But in this Tuesday's special election to replace him, Monserrate managed to get on the ballot and is attempting to regain his old seat. And he's attempting to do so by using just the sort of ethical standards you'd expect from someone who would slash his girlfriend's face with broken glass.

Toss in Monserrate's homophobic attacks against his opponent, his anti-marriage equality vote, and his Jesus complex, and you have all the makings of a Republican ... which he was for a about a week last year.

Hottie Loses NY State Senate Bid

Joe "Baby Joe" Mesi is a former heavyweight boxer who decided to become a Democratic politician and run for the New York State Senate. He lost in his heavily Republican district, but the Senate finally has a Democratic majority - making gay rights legislation much more likely to pass in New York.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of BabyDaddy Joe in the future.
