Last Night on Project Runway

So - did you watch Project Runway last night? Traditionally, the second-to-last episode is one of the most tedious for me to watch, and last nights episode continued that tradition...

Some thoughts:

• I know some people love it, but I don't enjoy seeing Tim Gunn "drive" across the country to visit the designers. Mr. Gunn seems so out of place the minute he leaves Manhattan, and oftentimes looks visibly uncomfortable. Also, I bet that drive to Hawaii was a killer - but at least Lifetime gave him a G.P.S.
• Was it just me, or did Michael Costello's boyfriend seem like a bit of a biatch?? He outed Michael to Michael's parents?!? This has occurred among friends of mine - and I can tell you that it usually happens during a nasty fight when the "out" partner decides get back at the closeted partner by outing him. I'm not saying that's what happened - but that boyfriend just seemed STANK to me.
• As far as the outcome of last nights show goes, if you think Lifetime ("Television for Women") was going to let there be an all-male finale, then you are smoking  buttercream  silk charmeuse  crack. Gwretched can thank the producers for her spot at Fashion Week - because those clothes were just WRONG.
• Judging by comments I've read on Twitter and elsewhere, some were not impressed by Michael C's "breakdown" after he was sent home. Personally, I felt bad for the guy. Michael obviously wasn't close to his family prior to being on the show, and (rightly or wrongly) felt that Project Runway would be a way of gaining their respect. When he was sent home, it seemed like the the thing he cared about the most was losing his family's love and support - not the competition itself. I was heartbroken for him - and hope he and his family can improve their relationship, regardless of what happened on Project Runway.
• Finally, can we just crown Mondo the winner already and get this over with??

Last Night on Project Runway ...

Random thoughts about last night's show...

• These 1 1/2-hour episodes are great in the beginning when there are a lot of designers, but they become a big snoozefest at this point in the show. How many times can they have each designer say "I just HAVE to make it to Fashion Week!" ??
• Every time I think Gwretched might not be all that horrible, she goes and proves that she really IS. "I'm glad I got the same second chance that YOU ALL got" was one of the stankest comments in the history of Project Runway.
• I agree with TLo - the producers decided who they wanted in the final, and the judges made it happen. Gwretched could have taken a hot steamy dump in Nina Garcia's Prada bag, and she would STILL be going to Fashion Week. The producers know that Gwretched is a controversial "character", whereas April (below) was not. And as we all know, Project Runway has become more about drama than it is about fashion these days.

• It was great to see Christian/Mango - but I wish he wouldn't have been so damn nice. I wanted him to call out some of the bland "fashion" that walked down the runway last night. I also think it's interesting that he kept talking about the practical aspects of fashion - Who is your customer?; Is it wearable and sell-able?  You can tell our little Mango runs his own fashion company now - and doesn't have much time to create fierceness just for fierceness sake. That fierceness needs to SELL.
• Finally, here was Swatch's reaction to this entire season ...

Last Night On Project Runway - "Are You High? ... Fashion"

Another train wreck on the runway last night on Project Runway. What is up with these designers? If they can't knock "high fashion" out of the park, what CAN they do?

Instead of high fashion, we saw:

• "Smurf Couture" from Ivy (above). Totally not smurfy. And I'm not sorry to see her go.
• "Renaissance Faire meets Hippie Chick on Planet Tacky" from Gwretched - and she was in the Top 3!

• "Tinkerbell Chic" from Valerie. I almost spit out my Chinese Food when Michael Kor(ange)s said that the only possible accessory that would work with that dress was a wand. Burn!

These garments were so hideous that Nina Garcia looked like she got a stomach virus by just LOOKING at them. Feel free to discuss in the comments.

Tim Gunn - CENSORED???

Every week Tim Gunn records a Facebook video with the behind-the-scenes dirt from the most recent episode of Project Runway. And, as we all know, Grandpa Gunn likes to tell it like it T-I-IS.  Apparently this week was no exception - here is a brief recap of his latest video from our good friends at Blogging Project Runway ...

The behind the scenes story on the production of "A Rough Day On The Runway" is far more entertaining than what we saw Thursday night. Something seemed amiss about this challenge and the way the judges acted on the runway and now we know why. It was simply flat out incompetence by Bunim-Murray (the producers of the show). A few bullet points:

• The challenge started out as a period piece costume that was going to be worn by Katie Holmes, but the designers would not be told!

• After the Katie Holmes/Jackie O angle went away, it became a dancewear challenge and Tim showed up on shooting day at the assigned studio, but no one was there. He had to find the shooting location on his own.

• Tim: "The whole notion that we would even associate Jackie Kennedy with American sportswear is a stretch."

• Tim stepped into the judging circle to clarify what the designers had been told the challenge was since it was clear they had a different idea.

After reading all that, I was DYING to see the video - since it seemed to explain why this past episode was such a hot mess. But guess what - the video has been removed from Facebook. Could it be that the Bunim-Murray people didn't appreciate Tim's honesty???

Tim has mentioned in his videos before, in passing, about the producers not telling him about locations or that he thought he was getting fired - could it be that they are trying to get rid of him? I will tell you this - if Bunim-Murray REALLY wants to sink Project Runway, all they have to do is get rid of Tim Gunn. NO ONE would watch that mess without him.

Goodness, I long for the days of Christian Siriano and Bravo ...

Last Night On Project Runway - Jackie OH HELL NO!

I didn't watch Project Runway too closely last night - I got distracted by Happy Hour ($3 Bud Lights!) and the fierce storm which blew through NYC. Furthermore, I left the sliding glass door to my balcony wide open when I left for work in the morning - so I returned home to a soggy carpet, a modem which required rebooting, and a need for post-Happy Hour/Tornado Chinese food.

Some thoughts on what I DID see ...

• I'm CONCERNED about Gretchen.  I'm CONCERNED about Gretchen because she is always so CONCERNED about the other designers and their garments.  But my CONCERN turned to jubilation when I saw the stank look on Gretchen's face after Heidi announced she was safe.  Dear Gretchen: Safe = A Good Thing.  Don't be so damn CONCERNED.
• Dear Andy: No ... Just NO...

Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em!

• Ivy is gross.
• I have a feeling people will say the judges were mean this week. But let's face it - the designers were supposed to be inspired by one of the most recognizable fashion icons of the last 100 years, and half of them were CLUELESS.  Most two-bit drag queens could throw together a convincing Jackie O inspired look in 20 minutes - why did this crew have so much trouble?
• Speaking of the bitchy judges, I think Michael Kor(ange)s was actually angry about how bad this Jackie O "fashion" was.  Let's face it, for many gay men of a certain age, Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis WAS fashion.  Plus, Michael made a valid point when he said that she managed to look amazing for 40 years.  It doesn't get much more inspirational than that.

• I have a feeling that Heidi is a germaphobe.  Did you ever notice that when Heidi hates a garment she describes it as "dirty"? I bet she makes Seal bathe in Purell before sexytimes.
• Mondo's eye makeup was FIERCE last night.  Not on his model - but on himself.

Feel free to discuss last night's Project Runway in the Comments.  Here is my two pennies worth...

• The highlight, for me anyway, was Michael Kors in the workroom.  That Orange Biatch was just as entertaining there as he is during judging - AND he seemed to give great advice to the designers. Of course it's easy to predict what the judges will like when you're one of the judges.

• I still don't see why everyone hates Michael Costello.  Seriously - does he fart in his sleep or something???

• Ivy is gross.

• Casanova grew on me over the past few weeks - I'll miss that Loca. But since we live in the same neighborhood I just might run into him sometime - we can bond over "getting fat!".

• And, finally, Ivy is gross.  Or did I mention that already??

Last Night On Project Runway ... DRAMA!

I didn't see the entire episode last night, just most of the last half - and OMG was there DRAMA!!  I have never before seen Tim talk smack like that about another designer RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER SOUR-ASS FACE !!  Gwretchen (misspelled on purpose) better LEARN IT.

Did anyone else feel sorry for Michael Costello?  Again, I didn't see the first half of the show so I'm not sure if the criticism was deserved or not.  Did he suck that bad in the workroom???  I happen to think he's kind of adorable, but you know ME: a little bit of pudge on a Latin-looking boy and I'm HOOKED ...

Finally, I just adored the looks on Nina's face.  She wasn't having the foolery that "Team Low-Budget Luxe" sent down the runway, and it looked like the fugliness of that collection made her physically ill. When Nina calls something "GHASTLY", you know you're in serious trouble.

Last Night on Project Runway

Last night on Project Runway was the eagerly-awaited "hat episode" - featuring legendary milliner Philip Treacy. I was surprised by how much dreck was sent down the runway - those hats were so fantastic, but many of the designers didn't seem to get too inspired.

I loved that Michael Costello won (outfit above) - if only because it pissed Gretchen and the others off.  And BTW, I'm ready to stab the annoying Casanova in the neck with a dirty fork - he better keep wearing those scarves for protection ...

Tonight: Project Runway Season 8 Begins

Don't forget to tune into Lifetime tonight at 9pm EST for the 8th season of Project Runway - and then look for my recap sometime tomorrow.  Maybe.  Recapping isn't as fun and/or rewarding as it used to be, and Lifetime just doesn't get the audience that Bravo did.  Sigh...

UPDATE:  I watched last night, but I didn't take notes - so unfortunately no recap this week.

Yes DustBunnies, the Grand Dame of reality competition shows - Project Runway - is back in NYC (thank Jeebus!) and back on Lifetime this week.  Check out the list of Season 8 contestants HERE (some of their names are ridiculous!), and here is a sneak peek of the first episode...
