You Can't HANDLE The Truth !!!
From The Daily What:
The Yiddish-language Ultra-Orthodox daily Der Tzitung apparently felt that their policy of keeping photos of women out of their publication (for fear of sexually exciting Hasidic men) took precedence over the presence of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the iconic Situation Room photo, because they photo-shopped her right out of her seat.
A female counter-terrorism expert was also erased from the photograph. Oy vey.

Election Coverage

As a huge political junkie/nerd, I stayed up late last night watching the coverage of the North Carolina and Indiana primaries. I even forgot about American Idol – although I heard Jason Castro stunk up the joint.
Here are a few thoughts:
1. Chris “Tweety” Matthews is STILL the most annoying person on Earth.
2. Keith Olbermann STILL rocks.
3. I am SO glad the mainstream media finally “gets it” – Hillary can’t win. I was so happy to see CNN and MSNBC not simply repeating the Clinton campaign’s ever-changing talking points. They were actually discussing her “exit strategy”. Tim Russert said “we now know who the Democratic nominee will be”. WOW!
4. At one point I switched over to Faux, er, FOX “News” (I needed a good laugh). And what were they discussing? Rush Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” – which they described as hugely successful. Apparently that fat-ass drug addict Limbaugh instructed Indiana Republicans to vote for Hillary in Indiana’s open primary – thus creating “chaos” in the Democratic party. Brit Hume and some blond Skank were laughing it up on-air about just how crafty that Rush Limbaugh is. Gross. I can’t wait to watch Fox on Election Night in November when Republicans will have NOTHING to laugh about.
5. Could it be that the Clinton and Obama campaigns are starting to do a little “mating dance”? They both mentioned unity and fighting John McCain in their speeches last night. And Hillary mentioned that she would work to elect the eventual nominee – something she has NEVER said before.
6. As much as he annoys the shit outta me – I have to give Chris Matthews some credit. While discussing Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” with some conservative commentator, Tweety absolutely DENOUNCED anyone who would use their vote to mess up the democratic process. As he said, too many people have fought (on and off the battlefield) and indeed died for the blessed privilege of voting. Go Tweety!
7. Chuck Todd, the “numbers” guy from MSNBC, is gay – isn’t he? He has a VERY gay goatee. I wish my goatee looked more like his – gay or otherwise.
I just hope we, as Democrats, don't screw this up. Are you listening - MADAM Vice President?!?

Now What?!?

Well, you got to hand it to Hillary Clinton – she did exactly what she needed to do last night: win Ohio (big) and Texas (barely – but good enough). She also won Rhode Island for good measure. Barack Obama was only able to win Vermont – and only won 5 counties in Ohio, an important swing state that Democrats must carry if they hope to win in November (see Ohio-related blog post here from MyDD).
Just when I thought I was settled in my support of Obama, Hillary goes and pulls one out of her butt. I must admit, I was kind of psyched for her – but now I'm totally confused as how this will play out.
Hillary will win Pennsylvania. Governor Ed “Fast Eddie” Rendell is behind her (as was Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland) – and trust me, Fast Eddie can BRING IT. He is the former Mayor of Philadelphia, and the former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee – and can mobilize the vote in my former home state of PA. Pennsylvania is very similar to Ohio in its electorate – 2 big Democratic Cities (Philly and Pittsburgh), and a bunch of middle class union workers who are worried about their future. Hillary will win Pennsylvania like she won Ohio. But it will take a lot of money, and a lot of fighting - and will all the money spent and all the negative campaigning HURT the eventual nominee?
There is also the matter of Michigan and Florida – two EXTREMELY important states that were penalized for holding their contests too soon. Do they go back and vote again? God, this is complicated!
This is SO not over…

Best Friends Forever

I love it how the mainstream media is all pissy today because Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton didn't fistfight and insult each other's Mamas in last night's debate. They actually had a mature, intelligent conversation about the issues that affect this country. Meanwhile, the Republicans are still debating whether or not mankind has evolved from apes (if you look at some Republicans, you can see we clearly HAVE).
I would gladly vote for either of these two - but I'll be voting for Hillary on Tuesday in New York's Democratic primary.

Hillary Wins New Hampshire!

Hillary Clinton defied the pundits, mainstream media, and pollsters last night and won the New Hampshire primary. Just one day prior, the media was talking about disarray on her team, money troubles, and various other negatives that were almost definitely going to lead to an inevitable Obama nomination.
Word to the wise - never, EVER, count out the Clintons. EVER.
I was switching back and forth last night between MSNBC, CNN, and the Internet, and I have some observations:
- Chris Matthews from MSNBC is the MOST ANNOYING HUMAN BEING in the fucking galaxy. I like MSNBC election coverage because of Keith Olbermann, but the presence of Chris Matthews is enough to make me hit the "mute" button.
- Another "mute" button moment - John Edwards and his standard "Debbie Downer" concession speech. OMG - is it REALLY that bad out there? Edwards DID, however, have the hot plumber guy from Desperate Housewives standing behind him during his speech.
- What's the deal with Ron Paul? Why do all his supporters look like they just came from a Grateful Dead revival show? Who is giving him all that money?
- John McCain is about 187 years old.
I LOVE election season - this is really going to get interesting...

Obama Wins Iowa

Last night Barack Obama won the Iowa caucuses by a large margin over John Edwards and Hillary Clinton. Up until now I have been a Hillary supporter, but after watching Obama’s speech last night, I may have changed my mind. There is NO way Hillary can match his enthusiasm, charisma, and inspirational message. I literally had the feeling that I was watching something historic.
The other big news was that the Democratic turnout was HUGE – basically double what it was in 2004. In fact, when it comes down to raw vote totals, Mike Huckabee, the Republican winner, would have come in FOURTH – behind Obama, Edwards, and Hillary.
Obama’s large win was due mainly to young people and/or first-time voters. This is a group that the pundits talk about during EVERY election season, and then they don’t ever seem to materialize in large numbers. Could Obama be the candidate to get young people interested in politics again (the way JFK did in the 1960’s)? We shall see…
I know I usually feature a bunch of silly shit on this blog, but be prepared for some election-related posts every now and again. It will give you a little break from all those gorgeous Daddies and Papis… :)
