HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE is the story of the brave young men and women who successfully reversed the tide of an epidemic, demanded the attention of a fearful nation and stopped AIDS from becoming a death sentence. This improbable group of activists bucked oppression and, with no scientific training, infiltrated government agencies and the pharmaceutical industry, helping to identify promising new medication and treatments and move them through trials and into drugstores in record time. In the process, they saved their own lives and ended the darkest days of a veritable plague, while virtually emptying AIDS wards in American hospitals in the process.

Kristen Wiig For President
I finally saw Bridesmaids (via HBO), and LOVED it (of course). Does anyone else out there think Kristen Wiig is full of the awesome?
I'd seriously pay money just to watch Ms. Wiig shell and eat pistachios. Or organize her sock drawer by size and color. Or wax her kitchen floor. Or ... you get the idea...

80's Flashback: Scritti Politti - Perfect Way
During my week at home I had plenty of time to watch things on TV I wouldn't normally watch. And one of these things was Hot Tub Time Machine. Don't judge! Besides, I've always thought Craig Robinson was kind of adorable. For you damn dirty RACISTS (you know who you are), Craig is the "the black guy" from The Office.
Anywhore, Hot Tub Time Machine features a bunch of 80's songs - including Scritti Politti's Perfect Way. Hearing that song brought back memories of my intense love for Scritti Politti. This love affair probably lasted 10-12 days (give or take), until Wham or Spandau Ballet came out with a new album and I forgot all about them. You know how teenagers are...

I Wonder ...
... if the guy above is related to HIM???
Actually, this guy is a model and ... cough, cough ... "actor" who appears in ... cough, wheeze ... low-budget ... cough ... "independent films".
Sorry, I had something in my throat ... much like this gentleman does in his movies.

RIP, Jane Russell
Ernestine Jane Geraldine Russell, the Hollywood bombshell more commonly known as Jane Russell, has left us at the age of 89.
I will always remember her as Dorothy Shaw in Gentlemen Prefer Blonds. And here is, of course, my favorite scene of the movie:
And YES, I know she turned out to be a crusty conservative Republican gasbag, but my Mama taught me not to speak ill of the dead (I speak PLENTY of ill about the living, thankyouverymuch). For now, I'd just like to remember Ms. Russell as a great movie star with an extremely pretty face and even prettier boobies. Is that so wrong???...

Sheriff Dullard's List
He forgot "Bed, Bath & Beyond on Sunday Afternoons".
I just re-watched To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar the other day, and I forgot how much I loved that silly little movie.

Captain America - Looking GOOD
Chris Evans gives the people what they want (shirtlessness!) in the latest promo for Captain America. I am SO going to see this movie (pics below via Towleroad)...
Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout...

The (Creepy) Eagles Have Landed
From Whatevs.net:
January, 2010, the weather stayed so cold in St. Louis, Missouri andAlton, Illinois that the bald eagles were cruising over houses in hopes of a quick meal.
They could not access fish that were at the bottom of the river and had gathered together.
Some kind souls decided to feed the eagles so they would survive the cold spell.
They gathered fish and started feeding the group of eagles huddled on the shore.
The photo shows what happened. A former teaching colleague took this photo (above) in front of his home.
I'm sorry, but every time I see a bunch of winged creatures gathering in one place, I immediately think of Alfred Hitcock's The Birds - and that creepy song the school children sang as the flying critters gathered:
I married my wife in the month of June. Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, Now, now, now!
I brought her off by the light of the moon. Ristle-tee, rostle-tee, hey donny dostle-tee, knickety-knackety, retro-quo-quality, willoby-wallaby, Now, now, now!

American State By Movies
I totally agree with Groundhog Day for Pennsylvania (where I was born and raised), and Taxi Driver for New York (where I've lived for the past 17 years as of next month).
Do you agree with YOUR state's selection?

Happy Birthday Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds, who will eventually light up our lives with his power ring spandexed bod in the upcoming Green Lantern movie, turns 34 today.
And speaking of Green Lantern, here is Reynolds totally making a kid's day at ComicCon by reciting Green Lantern's oath. Adorable ...

Spotted At The Dollar Store
After work I decided to get some exercise (I know, right?!?), so I walked to my old standby Dollar Store (which is a 1 1/2 mile trip). Upon entering I immediately spied a tall and handsome HOTTAY who was inspecting the eggs more thoroughly than the Department of Agriculture. For the purposes of this post I will simply call him A.M., because when the names of certain "actors" from a particular genre of "movies" get mentioned on the blog, my advertisers (and the pennies I get from it) tend to go away.
And just to prove that I don't make these things up, here is a grainy cell phone pic of A.M. purchasing his basket of dairy products.
NOTE: Unfortunately if you use his name in the comments I'll have to hit the "REJECT" button on your ass. I REALLY need those advertising pennies!!!

Werewolf of the Day - Alex Meraz
Actor Alex Meraz, 25, played a member of the "wolf pack" in New Moon - which, for some reason, I never got around to seeing (despite the eye candy). Meraz is married, has a son, and is an avid painter and illustrator.
