Crisis Of The Day ...

I just found out that my college girlfriend (yes, I'm talking about a real woman) in in town for the day and wants to meet.  We have remained friends (even after I came out to her), but haven't seen each other in almost 20 years.  AND NOW I'M FAT!!!!!

OMG - I have been frantically trying on and ripping off clothes for the last hour, trying to find something that doesn't make me look huge...

Well, it's nice to know some things DON'T change ... I'm still vain and shallow after all these years.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch Changes

First off, I'm just going to say that I HATE change.  I've lived on the same block for 15 years (in a city where people move constantly) and have held the same job for 10 of the last 12 years.  Change freaks me out - and I try to avoid it at all costs.

But I found out last night that I must move, and therefore I'm in a panic.  And, depending upon the NYC Housing Court System, this could happen in a matter of two weeks or so.

Without going into details (which I really cannot do), I did think this might happen eventually - albeit not so soon.  And I will also say that I'm not a victim of some lowdown slumlord.  So, again, this isn't a total shock.  But it's CHANGE, and thus I am freaked.

Furthermore, those of you who've seen my Hoarders-worthy "bedroom" know how much crap I must go through, organize, and pack.  For those of you who have not witnessed my mess, consider yourselves lucky.

So, I gotta get busy.  I need to figure out what in the hell I'm doing with myself, all my stuff, and my two cats.  And I gotta figure out how to pay for whatever I decide to do. So during this period of time I won't be blogging as much - or commenting on your blogs.  Or Twittering.  Or sleeping.  But I WILL be constantly worrying and in need of carbs.  So there's that...

I just KNEW that happy-ass Weigh-In post YESTERDAY would jinx my life.  Remind me NEVER to be so friggin' upbeat and optimistic.

My "Rebound Hairdryer"

Earlier this week I told you about my 25-year-old hairdryer named "Chic" - who became my friend and confidant during her many years of faithful service.  After Chic's passing, I observed the appropriate mourning period for hairdryers/friends (3 days, FYI) and purchased a replacement (above).

Now I'm trying to decide whether to call her "Vida" or "Sassy" - what do you think?  Any other name suggestions will also be considered - so please leave a comment.

Whatever her name is, that blue biatch CERTAINLY has some big (burgundy) shoes to fill ...

Goodbye Old Friend

This old, beat up hairdryer (above) was once my friend. "Chic" (pronounced - by me anyway - "Chick", not "Sheek") was given to me by Mama Bunny before I left for Penn State in 1985. Chic was once a beautiful and fashionable deep burgundy (like the hairdryer below) and was quite the powerhouse.

When I graduated from college and moved back home to Carlisle, PA - Chic made the move with me. And when I relocated to NYC I brought her along. All the while Chic performed faithfully and admirably every day.

Over the years I've found myself with less and less hair, but Chic always gave me a quick dry after my shower. Unfortunately, as she got older, Chic became less and less dependable - on many days she would just stop before I was finished. So Mama Bunny got me a new hairdryer - our little mother-son tradition.  And people wonder why I'm gay.

Anywhore, I just couldn't let Chic go - so I put her in the bathroom cabinet and let her rest. Eventually my replacement dryer died, so I dusted off Chic and she worked again like a charm ... for about 3 weeks.

Yesterday morning as I gave my wet head a quick once-over with my beloved Chic, I thought I smelled fire. Sure enough, Miss Thang was sparking and smoking like a Rastafarian - and before I could react my beloved Chic died. Sadly - this time it was permanent. BTW - the discoloration on Chic is NOT a result of this incident - it's due to being used almost every day for 25 years.

So last night, after taking her picture and saying a little gay prayer ("First I was afraid, I was petrified. Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side...I will survive. I will survive. Hey hey ..."), I put my friend of 25 years in the recycle bin.

May the Sweet Baby Jeebus watch over her fried little burgundy soul...

So Far ... So Good

Things are actually going well with my new weight-loss REGIMEN.  So well, in fact, that I'm going to do a WEIGH-IN post tomorrow!!  I know, right?!?  Yes, I have surprised myself.

And NO, I have not had any "raw toast" and/or bread...

I Was Struck By Lightning As A Kid

A lot of things are going to make sense after you read this next sentence... I was struck by lightning as a kid.

Ok, not really.  Here’s the story ...  I was about 12 or 13 growing up in Central Pennsylvania.  The house we lived in had a family room in the basement – with a side door that led outside.

It was thunder-storming like crazy one hot summer day – and I was by myself at home, talking on the phone with my good friend Fiona.  Just a young gayling chatting with his main hagling for hours and hours - that’s how I rolled.  All of a sudden I got an urge to “check on the storm” - so I opened the door (holding the telephone) and stepped halfway outside.

Here’s the part I don’t remember.  According to Fiona, there was a loud noise followed by no other sounds besides rain and thunder.  Not a peep out of me.  This lasted, she said, for about 5 minutes or so – Fiona remained on the line trying to talk to me.

Here’s what I DO remember.  Waking up … laying on the pavement outside the door – in the rain – with an excruciating ringing in my ear and the telephone receiver laying beside me.  When I figured out where/what/who I was, I let out a blood-curdling scream that rivaled Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween ... or her mother's shrieks in Psycho.

I stumbled inside and hung up the phone (Fiona heard my whole freak-out).  My ear was RINGING – but I managed to call my mother who was working on the other side of town.  I tearfully blubbered something about being “hit by lighting” – and Mama Bunny high-tailed it out of work and back home.

By the time she got to the house, I was fine.  The ear-ringing had died down – and I didn’t have any other physical symptoms of anything.  In fact, Mom didn’t even take me to the hospital or doctor.  She probably gave me a Bayer aspirin, a hug, and a Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie (or three) and I was good to go.  The only thing I suffered from was embarrassment - because the neighbors told my parents they heard a woman screaming hysterically that afternoon.  Yes, that "woman" was me.

I’m still not quite sure what really happened.  Lightening didn’t actually strike the phone line, because we never lost phone service.  But something (lightning?) caused me to pass out and caused my ear to ring.

As a result of this incident, I was hoping to turn into some kind of superhero with freaky powers, something like “Lightening Boy” or “Electra Woman and Dyna Girl”.  Fiona could have been my Dyna Girl.

But, alas, I was still just ME… with no superpowers to speak of.  Unless you count being able to track down Arby's using only my acute sense of smell.
