Happy Birthday Curt!

My "sister" Maddie's "Boy Toy" is now officially a "Man Toy" - Curt turns 30 this weekend! Happy Birthday dear!!! Here I am with the birthday boy ... er, MAN a few months ago...

Don't Go Camping With Skinny Bitches

As you all know - I went camping this past weekend with my friends Maddie and Curt. Maddie and Curt are skinny - I am not. Cheese and crackers is a meal to them. THIS is a meal to ME(actually, these are only appetizers)...

I was hungry all weekend, but skinny Maddie and Curt could eat a grape and then be full for two hours. Not me - I need to keep a constant feedbag going. Maddie and Curt had finally heard enough of my bitching, and we decided to go to a local pub - Platz's. Gary, one of our camping hosts, had been there before - and went along with us. The picture above is of our appetizers. We also each had an entree and were STUFFED by the time we left. My veal parmesan dinner was delish - and Maddie's crabcakes were possibly the best I have ever eaten. See, Maddie is so skinny that he was willing to share his crabcakes with me!

The huge meal DID manage to shut me up for the night. But by the next day (Sunday), I was hungry again (natch). So guess where we went on our way back home...


Arby's number three baby!!!!! Thank you Maddie and Curt for putting up with my whining - and for feeding me..... eventually.

Arby's Blogging...

Hello my Darling Dust Bunnies. I am blogging from the gorgeous gay wilderness of The Woods campground. It is Sunday afternoon, and we will soon be headed back to Maddie and Curt's apartment - where I will begin my 4-hour train trek home.

We have had a GREAT time. And before we got here, they took me to my favorite eatery ... TWICE!!!

On Thursday evening, Curt was nice enough to drive into Philadelphia and pick me up at the train station - thus allowing me to avoid a third transfer to a third train. I was tired and hungry, and Curt (AKA Maddie's "Boy Toy") made it a point to take me to Arby's. Here he is (below) proudly holding his feedbag.

The next day - while driving to Camp - the three of us stopped at a different Arby's for lunch. That's Maddie and Curt (below) trying to avoid the rain.

Needless to say, it's been a DELICIOUS weekend. More pics/stories later...

Next Trip - Gay Camping With Maddie & Bears!

Thanks again for all your kind words and concern about me going/not going to New Orleans. I'm glad I decided to stay home - as miserable as I was, it would have been MUCH worse if I had to get evacuated out of New Orleans. Speaking of evacuations, please keep checking in with Dan's blog for what it was like to be there.

I go back to work tomorrow, and today I finally have access to a computer - so I'm trying to catch up on everyone's blogs and emails. Special thanks to TrannyBeth and Joy for calling me - and to everyone for your emails and comments. Every once in a while I need to escape, and this was one of those times. I WAS pretty bummed, but I'm ok now.

I am looking forward to a weekend camping trip with Maddie and Curt on next weekend. You might recall that Maddie, Curt and I recently took a daytrip to The Cloisters. Maddie is one of my oldest and dearest friends, and I'm sure we will have a great time camping. We will be headed to The Woods, a gay campground located in Northeastern PA. It is "Bear Weekend", which means there will be all kind of furry beasts roaming around and getting frisky. Good times.

White Meat Monday - The Friends Edition...

I got a rare treat this weekend - VISITORS! My longtime friend (and "sister") Steve (AKA Maddie) and Curt (Steve's boyfriend/husband/spouse of 7 years), came to NYC on Saturday. Curt, who's still in his twenties (albeit LATE twenties - that bitch!), is taking a Spanish course - where he was instructed to write about a recent "cultural experience". Everyone knows there is no better place in the U.S to get your "cultcha" on than in New York City.

Curt chose to go to the Cloisters, a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which houses its' Medieval European art collection. The Cloisters is located in way UPPER Manhattan, in the middle of Fort Tryon Park. Everyone had always told me how beautiful the museum and park were, but I had never been there myself. So Maddie and Curt drove from the suburbs of Philadelphia to Manhattan on Saturday. I met them in the early afternoon (they came bearing gifts of BEAN DIP! - it's a long story), and we headed onto the subway for the trip uptown.

Curt had never ridden on the NYC subway system before, so that could have been his "cultural experience" right there. We made it to 190th Street, and wandered our way through Fort Tryon Park, until we got to the magnificent Cloisters.

The land for the park, the buildings themselves, and most of the artwork was purchased by John D. Rockefeller in the 1930's, and donated to the City. Hey, it was the Great Depression - he needed the tax write-off. Rockefeller even purchased the New Jersey Palisades across the Hudson River, to insure the spectacular views that we still enjoy today. That must have been SOME write-off! The most famous part of the collection are the "Unicorn Tapestries" - the most recognizable of which is below:

The buildings are made up of old French monasteries that Rockefeller had shipped here and re-assembled, creating a compound with towers, gorgeous gardens, and soaring vaulted ceilings. And the views from the Cloisters are truly incredible.

Here are some more of the pictures we took. I went ahead, took a deep breath, and decided to post (for only the 2nd time) pictures of my hefty self. It wasn't easy. Notice how I made Maddie stand in front of me. If I can just get that ONE CHILD, somewhere out there, to put down that Twinkie - this will have all been worthwhile. Ugh. I am truly embarrassed by how I look.

After our trip, we headed downtown for dinner, and then ended up at the historic Stonewall bar for a drink (or three). Maddie and Curt continued on to a couple of bars in Chelsea - and I went home so I could be rested up for Design Star recapping on Sunday. After a long day (and evening), Maddie and Curt made it back to PA just BRIMMING with culture.

It was great seeing both of them - and I hope to see them again in September for GAY CAMPING. More information to follow...
