Greenwich Village Dust Bunny Bar Tour

One of the things I've always wanted to do is a Bar Tour (AKA "Pub Crawl") from one end of the West Village to the other. Christopher Street (and the surrounding Greenwich Village neighborhood) was the birthplace of the gay movement and the former epicenter of Gay NYC. Even though the neighborhood is no longer a trendy gay destination, there are still a bunch of fun bars to be explored.

So, one of the options that I will propose during the Dust Bunny Weekend is a Dust Bunny Bar Tour on Saturday night. The idea is to have one drink at each bar, and move on to the next one. By the time you get to the end, everyone is WASTED and at least half the group has been fondled inappropriately...

We would begin our tour at Pieces. It's always fun to "go to Pieces"...

Next, the oldest gay bar in NYC - Julius'. They make a stiff drink (and delicious hamburgers) here...

Around the corner from Julius' is where is all began, the historic Stonewall...

Then a sip and twirl at the Monster. They have a piano bar upstairs, and a dance floor downstairs...

Then we could sing a few show tunes at Marie's Crisis. This has been a tavern since colonial times (Thomas Paine lived upstairs). The bathrooms were last renovated sometime during the Civil War, but the piano players are phenomenal...

Then back to Christopher Street to Boots and Saddles (AKA "Bras and Girdles")...

Farther down Christopher we have neighborhood Bear Bar Ty's...

Then The Hangar. If we're lucky, the go-gos will be dancing...

Finally, at the far end of Christopher Street, the final destination - The Dugout ... known for Beer, Bears and their view of the Hudson River...

And, depending how your weekend goes, we could always get you to the Free Clinic in Chelsea on Monday morning...

Sounds like fun, huh?!?

Thanks so much for the tour. I lived many years in NYC when the Village was the epicentre, and never a week went by that we didn't make it down the street. I miss Christophers and One Potato, but Julius' was my favorite...

This sounds PERFECT!!! (Well, except for the free clinic.)

I didn't realize Patsy Cline was a lesbian, but apparently her song "I go to Pieces" is proof. (OK, kind of lame, I admit.)

Whew, I think everyone who is going needs to start training NOW! [cue the Rocky music]

I have indeed heard of the Stonewall and know its place in history. Cool that it's still going strong!

Hugs, Beth

Well, what about The Duplex? Sadly, I don't even know half those bars, and I worked in the gayborhood... in the 80s.

Still, sounds like fun, and we will also be getting exercise!

Duh - I always forget the Duplex. That makes it an even 10. I think 10 drinks should get us started nicely...

There is also this other place, it's a bar/restaurant that starts with a "G" ... but I'm not sure they're ready for us!!

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Perhaps we could start there - if only we knew someone to book a group who could benefit from us...

So glad you have a plan! Now I know you're going to need those bacon sandwiches wherever you might end up!

Thanks for the tour! I learn so much from you. :-)

Just reading the post, and already I'm tipsy, and my man panties have fallen off. Damn, hope Bill and I can make it.

What memories I have of Julius's and Stonewall, but I wasn't around for any of the others. I once had drinks with Rudolph Nureyev at Julius's ( along with a dozen agog admirers)

Here's hoping you make it through the entire tour.
