Keith Olbermann Is Blogging

Keith Olbermann has launched the FOK News Channel (FOK = "Friends of Keith") blog, and I'm loving it. He even does "Worst Persons"!

Keith Will Return To Television

As many of you have heard by now, Keith Olbermann is partnering with Al Gore's Current TV and will host a show on the network sometime in the late spring. This makes me happier than a tornado in a trailer park!

However, there were a few tense moments yesterday afternoon before I could confirm that the satellite network at my apartment carried Current TV - but luckily it DOES.

I may not have LOGO/RuPaul - but at least I'll be able to get my Keith fix.

MSNBC Made Me Cry Last Night

As many of you have already heard, Keith Olbermann and MSNBC ended their relationship abruptly last night and Keith (as well as Countdown) signed off the air for the last time. After hearing this - and determining it wasn't some elaborate prank - I cried like a baby.

Yes, that's a tad dramatic but dammit I'm a Queen and we're allowed - nay, REQUIRED - to bring the drama when we feel strongly about something. And I feel VERY strongly about Keith Olbermann.

If ya'll haven't figured it out by now, I spend a ridiculous amount of time on the computer. So much so, that I rarely watch television anymore - since my computer and TV connections are in separate rooms. In a way, this is good because I'm not wasting hours every week watching Seinfeld reruns. But it's also bad, because when one of the few shows I actually watch comes to an end - it really affects me. And Keith's sudden and unexpected departure last night hit me like a ton of bricks.

Keith Olbermann was the only cable news talking head who made any sense to me. He helped me get through the George W. Bush years, the oil spill in the Gulf and so many other frustrating events with my sanity (relatively) intact. For whatever reason, I GOT Keith - his intellect, his sense of humor, and yes - even his occasional pomposity.

So not being able to hear his take on the new Republican majority in the House - and then the 2012 elections (and beyond) simply freaks me out. Yes, there's always Rachel Maddow - but I don't connect with her like I did Keith. And if you think Rachel won't be toning down her progressiveness under the new Comcast overlords - especially after THIS - then you're kidding yourself.

In the meantime - Fox "News" and their right wing propaganda machine chugs along - now virtually unchallenged.

Dear Keith - you will be missed more than you can ever imagine.

Thoughts?

Sign Petition In Support Of Keith Olbermann

As you've probably heard, progressive MSNBC host Keith Olbermann (above) was "suspended indefinitely" yesterday when his MSNBC bosses learned he had made political donations to Democratic candidates. Later, it was reported by Daily Kos that conservative MSNBC asshat host Joe Scarborough (below left) made donations to Republican candidates AND headlined a fundraiser for the Alabama GOP. Furthermore, CNBC host Larry Kudlow (below right) has also contributed to Republicans. Yet Scarborough and Kudlow face no disciplinary action at this time. [UPDATE: According to Rachel Maddow last night, this rule doesn't apply to CNBC]

Like him or not, Keith Olbermann is a much needed progressive voice in the face of the obnoxious cacophony of Fox "News" ConservaTeaTardism. I urge you to SIGN THIS PETITION demanding Olbermann's immediate reinstatement at MSNBC.

Keith Olbermann on the "Ground Zero Mosque"

If you haven't watched this already, please do so.  As always, Keith Olbermann speaks the TRUTH about the mis-named "Ground Zero Mosque" and the paranoid bigots who want us to ignore the religious freedom this nation was founded upon:
Yet, in a country dedicated to freedom, forces have gathered to blow out of all proportion the construction of a minor community center; to transform it into a training ground for terrorists and an insult to the victims of 9/11 and a tribute to medieval Muslim subjugation of the West. There is no training ground for terrorists. There is no insult to the victims of 9/11. There is no tribute to medieval Muslim subjugation of The West. There is, in fact, no 'Ground Zero mosque.'"
"Despite the nobility of our founding and the indefatigable efforts of all our generations, there have always been those who would happily sacrifice our freedoms, our principles, to ward off the latest unprecedented threat, the latest unbeatable outsiders. Once again, at 45 Park Place, we are being told to sell our birth-right, to feed the maw of xenophobia and vengeance and mob rule. The terrorists who destroyed the buildings from which you could only see 45 Park Place as a dot on the ground, wanted to force us to change our country to become more like the ones they knew. What better way could we honor the dead of the World Trade Center, than to do the terrorists' heavy lifting for them? And do you think 45 Park Place is where it ends?"

Keith Olbermann's Father Has Died

If you watch Countdown with Keith Olbermann like I do, you know that Keith hasn't been around much due to his sick father.  Well, his beloved dad, Theodore Olbermann (above), passed away yesterday - and this is what Keith wrote on his BLOG...

Though the financial constraints of his youth made college infeasible, he accomplished the near-impossible, becoming an architect licensed in 40 states. Much of his work was commercial, for a series of shoe store chains and department stores. There was a time in the 1970's when nearly all of the Baskin-Robbins outlets in the country had been built to his design, and under his direction. Through much of my youth and my early adult life, it was almost impossible to be anywhere in this country and not be a short drive to one of "his" stores.
My Dad was predeceased last year by my mother, Marie, his wife of nearly 60 years. He died peacefully after a long fight against the complications that ensued after successful colon surgery last September at the New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center. My sister Jenna and I were at his side, and I was reading him his favorite James Thurber short stories, as he left us.

So sad.

I also found out yesterday that DustBunny Nutwood Beth's father has fallen gravely ill, and she has traveled to Florida to be with her family.  Please send her some good wishes.
