Torvill & Dean - 1984 Olympics

Full disclosure: I know NOTHING about Ice Dancing.  But I had the Olympics on last night as I fiddled around on my laptop - and I heard the announcers mention "Torvill and Dean".  Of course I had heard of Torvill and Dean, and I had the general knowledge that they were exceptional Ice Dancers, but I didn't know the full story.  So I headed over to The Google for the 4-1-1.

According to Wikipedia:
Torvill and Dean (Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean) are British ice dancers and former British-, European-, Olympic- and World champions. At the 1984 Winter Olympics the pair became the highest scoring figure skaters of all time, receiving twelve perfect 6.0s, including artistic impression scores of 6.0 from every judge.

In the Winter of 1984 I was a junior in high school and I was not paying any attention to the Olympics.  Especially since Mama Bunny - my Arch-Enemy at the time - loved the Olympics.  I was not going to show any interest in something Mom liked - that would be like fraternizing with the enemy.  Nothing serious, we just had the usual Mother-Daughter issues, dontcha know.

So I'm not sure I've ever seen Torvill and Dean's legendary "Bolero" performance.  But thanks to YouTube, I was able to find it - and it is absolutely stunning...

Wow.  Over at Dictionary.com, under the word "Beautiful", they should just post this YouTube clip.

And I absolutely loved how the announcers didn't speak A WORD until the end.

Last Night On Television...

Did anyone watch Lost last night? OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!

I can't believe they actually gave us some answers!  Those WERE answers, right?!?...

Right?!?!

I also watched some of the Olympic Men's Figure Skating short program.  But I wanted to hurl ever time the announcers salivated over "hard-working athlete" Evan Lysacek (AKA "straight"), while dismissing Johnny Weir's "flamboyance" (AKA "gay").  Note to Men's Figure Skating: it may be a little difficult to "butch-up" the sport when your athletes look like THIS ...

Werq!!!  Also, to further "de-gay" Men's Figure Skating, you might want to stop playing The Scissor Sisters in the arena between performances.  Just saying.

Anyclosetcase, I had to throw away away my Gaydar after it burst into flames when Evan tip-toed onto the ice wearing his "Big Bird Gone Bad" outfit...

Glamour!  Drama!!  Masculinity???...  Give me a break.  Evan Lysacek is gayer than a wicker basket full of tiaras in Richard Simmons' Sunroom.  There, I said it...

Dust Bunny Marker discusses the "gay" figure skating issue in more depth HERE.  What did YOU watch last night?

Olympic Bronze Medalist - J.R. Celski

Five months ago, adorable Speedskater J.R. Celski, 19, lay bleeding on the ice after falling and cutting himself on his skate blade.  But last night after two leading South Koreans crashed on the ice, Celski skated to a bronze medal in the Men's Short Track 1500 meter event.  His childhood idol, Apolo Ohno (below), won the silver.  And I thought I was going to have a heart attack just watching.

Question: Is anyone else (besides Froggy and Joy) watching the Winter Olympics?

Guiliani Gets a Job - May Stay Out of Politics

According to Gothamist, former NYC Mayor (and forever idiot) Rudolph Giuliani (above) has accepted a long-term job as a security consultant for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. And he's taking his wigs with him.

This is good news, because it could mean Giuliani isn't interested in challenging Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand or running for New York Governor in 2010. Both races were seen as winnable by Giuliani - unlike his pathetic run for the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination.

So, it looks like Rio gains a douchenozzle, and New York loses one of the only Republicans that could win a state-wide election. Awwwwwww...... ;)

White Meat Monday - The END

Swimmer Ricky Berens, 21, helped the U.S.A. (and teammate Michael Phelps) win the Olympic gold medal in the 4 x 200 Freestyle Relay in Beijing. That's Ricky on the left...

As if that wasn't enough, Mr. Berens has given us even MORE - a glimpse of his perky bootay!! During a competition in Rome, Ricky's suit split right before he dove in but he competed anyway.

The U.S. qualified for the finals and ENDED up winning. Thanks to Eric Arvin for posting this on his great blog - Daventry Blue.

Olympic Daddy Of The Day - Louis Smith

Louis Smith won Great Britain's first men's gymnastics medal in 100 years when he won the bronze in the Pommel Horse.

He was advised to shave off his 'fro, so as not to upset the "conservative" Olympic judges.

Olympic Daddy Of The Day - Andrea Minguzzi

The gay blogosphere has been aflutter ever since we discovered Andrea Minguzzi from Italy – Olympic gold medalist in wrestling. As if he wasn’t hot enough already – he also works as a POLICE OFFICER when he is not training for competition.
