I'm MOST DEFINITELY An Anti-Dentite

AFTER OVER SIX MONTHS OF WAITING, I FIND OUT CALLEN-LORDE DENTAL CLINIC CAN ACTUALLY ONLY CLEAN MY FRIGGIN TEETH - NOT PULL THEM. It would have been so nice if they told me this SIX FRIGGIN MONTHS AGO. In the meantime, I'm sure Callen Lorde is enjoying the fees (which they billed to NY state) for the cleanings I've received.

Callen Lorde DID give me a referral to 3 different clinics - NONE of which, it turns out, can help me with oral surgery  Either these clinics don't take my state-run insurance, or they are no longer accepting patients. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

What a racket. Stay tuned for my Yelp review...

Afternoon Celebration - I Am What I Am

It's during times like these in the history of the LGBT movement when you gotta bring out the big guns [necessary and deliberate military pun]. And one of the biggest guns in the LGBT songbook arsenal is this version of I Am What I Am, sung by Gloria Gaynor - which is so appropriate today

Hit it, Gloria ...

Paranormal State Star Comes Out as Bisexual

According to EW, Ryan Buell - the star of A&E docuseries Paranormal State - reveals that he is bisexual in his new book Paranormal State: My Journey Into the Unknown. He also discusses his Catholicism and his struggle to reconcile his religion with his sexuality:
“I’ve decided to share my sexuality and struggle over faith in hopes that others will no longer feel as though they are alone or that they can’t be religious.”
I've watched Paranormal State before - mainly because Buell and his "researchers" are students or alumni of Penn State - my alma mater.  In fact, in the picture above, Buell is standing in front of Old Main - the building which houses the university President's office and other administrative offices.  And back in my day, the area in front of Old Main was a PRIME cruising ground after dark.  Not that I would know or anything...

Actually, the steps in front of Old Main was the very first place I met/hung out with a group of openly gay men.  On Friday and Saturday nights, a bunch of guys would gather on the steps to watch all the cruising, critique people's outfits, and generally act catty (you know how we do) - and I became part of the group.  Since I was in the closet during college, it was a BIG first step for me to actually hang out with these guys.  Granted, it was pretty late at night and the chances of one of my straight buddies walking past was pretty slim (all my friends lived off-campus at that point) - but it was still a big deal for me.  In fact, a couple of guys I met there became good friends even after college.

Anywhore, I just think it's kind of funny that bisexual Ryan had his picture taken in that particular spot.  Maybe he was planning on meeting "the girls" later.

Oh, one last thing, I once drunkenly passed out pretty much exactly where Ryan is standing - and slept there in a rum-induced coma until morning.

Boycott Tarjay !

After a series of shady donations to anti-gay political causes by Target and Target Executives, then reneging on a promise to make things right with the gay community, MoveOn.Org and others are calling for a boycott of the company.

Bob gives some excellent background information HERE, and you can go HERE to sign MoveOn's petition.

And even if you have to go to KMart (quelle horreur!), don't give Target a dime of your gay (or gay-friendly) money until they make things right.  After all, the Gays put that store on the map ... Tarjay would be about as fashionable as a Flashdance sweatshirt with neon-green legwarmers if it wasn't for us Gays.  Ungrateful bastards...

Penn State Ranked Among Top LGBT-Friendly Colleges

My alma mater - The Pennsylvania State University - has just received a perfect 5 stars in Campus Pride's annual survey which ranks colleges on their LGBT friendliness.  GO PENN STATE!!

I must say, I'm a little surprised.  When I was a big-ole closet case during my 6 (count 'em!) years at Penn State, the university and the student body at large were not particularly tolerant of gay people.  There was a Gay & Lesbian Student Alliance (and a gay bar across from campus), but that's about it.  In fact, while I was closeted I can't remember meeting any openly gay people in all of my travels.  Of course I encountered (cough cough ..SO TO SPEAK) many other closet cases like myself - and after graduation I learned that many of my closest "straight" friends in college were actually gay.  But none of us felt comfortable enough to come out during our time at Penn State.

I'm really happy to see things have changed.

Inappropriate Lesbian Humor

I apologize in advance for this, but I just couldn't resist:

Q: Why can’t a lesbian diet and put on makeup at the same time?

A: Because you can’t eat Jenny Craig with Mary Kay on your face.

I know ... I know ... that's just all kinds of WRONG. Source: LGBT Laughs

NOM's Solution For Gay Marriage - KILL GAY PEOPLE

As you may or may not know, the National Organization for Morons Marriage (AKA "The Hate Hags") are currently on a nationwide bus van tour "protecting" opposite marriage.  And since they literally haven't attracted more than 3 dozen supporters (max) at each stop, NOM has taken the opportunity to play victim to all the hateful "homofacists" who outnumber their supporters at NOM rallies - saying OUR side is filled with hate, not theirs.  NOM allegedly even slashed their own tires, then sent out an "emergency" fundraising email to help raise money for their cause.  Whatever happened to Triple-A Roadside Assistance, you scuzzbags?!?

But two can play the "victim" game.  Check out the sign that one man brought to a NOM rally in Indianapolis...

OH MY GOD, ALL OPPOSITE MARRIAGE SUPPORTERS WANT TO LYNCH GAY PEOPLE.  HELP!!!! HELP!!!!!!

See, the "victim" card can be a two-way street - and we can play that game too.  More information at Joe.My.God, who's been providing excellent coverage of NOM and their Tour de FAIL.

Tomorrow: National Day of Silence

On the National Day of Silence hundreds of thousands of students nationwide take a vow of silence to bring attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in their schools.

In support of LGBT youth and their allies, this blog will remain silent tomorrow - except for a single post promoting the Day of Silence.  I encourage other bloggers to do the same.  Thanks to Wicked Gay Blog for letting me know about this.

The bigots of the right-wing have already taken a stand against the Day of Silence - which, I guess, means they SUPPORT name-calling, bullying and harassment. How CHRISTIAN of them. Conservawhores Laurie Higgins (Illinois Family Institute) and Linda Harvey (Mission America) issued the following instructions to "Christian" parents (via Joe.My.God)...

Explain to your children why you’re taking a stand:
a. Homosexual behavior is not an innate identity.
b. No matter what factors may influence homosexual feelings, freely chosen homosexual behavior is immoral and should be resisted.
c. Homosexuality is not equivalent to race.
d. Disapproval of homosexuality is not equivalent to racism; nor is it hatred; nor is it bullying; nor does it constitute an incitement to violence. It is permissible and ethical to express disapproval of homosexuality. Just because someone may feel bad when hearing that someone disapproves of homosexuality does not mean that disapproval is cruel or wrong.

Whatever, Skanks.  To find out more about the Day of Silence, you can check out their website HERE.

The Incredible Journey of Erin Davies and Her Car

I saw this story over the weekend about out lesbian Erin Davies and the amazing journey she has taken since her car was spray-painted with anti-gay graffiti in Albany, NY.  I was really surprised to find that she appeared at the small college in my PA hometown as a part of the third annual "Gay-Straight Alliance Leadership Summit"!  Perhaps the small conservative town I remember IS evolving after all.

Here is Erin's story, from her website:

On the 11th Annual National Day of Silence, Erin Davies was victim to a hate crime in Albany, New York. Because of sporting a rainbow sticker on her VW Beetle, Erin's car was vandalized...

Despite initial shock and embarrassment, Erin decided to embrace what happened by leaving the graffiti on her car. She took her car, now known worldwide as the "Fagbug," on a 58-day trip around the United States and Canada. Along the way, Erin discovered more serious hate crimes, had people attempt to remove the graffiti, and experimented with having a male drive her car. After driving for one year, Erin decided to give her car a makeover.

And here is what it looks like now ...

Erin's mission:
To raise awareness about hate crimes and homophobia in our society, to give a voice for those who are silent, to inspire others to take a stand against bullies and to be an example of how to overcome obstacles in bringing a creative project to life.

To learn more about Erin and her interesting project, check out her website HERE.

Harold Ford Enters the Lions Den

New York Senator maybe-wannabe Harold Ford Jr. spoke to the Stonewall Democrats at NYC's Gay and Lesbian Center last night, and things DID NOT go smoothly for the slimeball from Tennessee.

According to Daily Kos:
If he had supporters, it was not evident. Many people held picket signs, with words like "Anti-gay liar," "Liar," and "Snakeoil Harold." If not for the efforts of organizers, it would have devolved into a real scene.
The loudest applause came when Lt. Dan Choi expressed support for incumbent Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. He told Ford he seemed to be asking our community to "fire her" to reward her for her fierce advocacy.
Ford didn't do himself any favors by asking a questioner to clarify what "Lawrence v. Texas" was. Ladies will be glad to hear the room was equally activated when Ford tried to distance himself from his pro-life past.
The session was brief, lasting just 20 minutes. It appeared to be cut short when the room burst out in chants of:
"Anti-choice, anti-gay, snake oil Harold, go away."

In other news, "New York resident" (cough, cough) Ford has NEVER filed taxes in New York (only in Tennessee), even though he claims to have moved to Manhattan 3 years ago.

Can you please leave now Harold? Kthxbai.
