I want to let all my NYC Dust Bunnies know that there will be a Prop 8 protest this Wednesday at 6:30 pm. We will be protesting at the Mormon Temple at 125 Columbus Avenue (at 65th Street). First, be careful! (As I told Eldest Son when the police raided their house during a loud party and broke down locked doors - yes, they were wrong, but please don't piss off people who are armed and have permission to shoot you. Fight it in the courts and they did and won :-)

Third - I know this issue will be resolved someday. Not soon enough for many but it will. I agree with a public discourse but I hope and pray it stays a safe discourse.
David -- It's really exciting to see this level of activism around the country, not just here in California. Exercise your First Amendment rights and take it to the streets, baby! Just remember -- keep it legal and keep it peaceful. There was a protest at the big Mormon Temple in LA earlier this week that unfortunately got quite ugly and racist, and that's no way to win anyone to our cause. On the other hand, there was a HUGE (12,000+) rally in Silverlake last night that was a rousing success with lots of media attention -- and lots of hotties to boot! ; )
It's not just the Mormons. This is the next civil rights barrier that needs to go down. It's as if it's OK to say, do, and legislate against a group of American citizens without guilt. Well, this has to change, too!
I agree with FP that you need to be safe and get this passed through the courts. Be careful and don't get hurt. It can get out of hand and be scary. Protest has been part of other changes but working through the system made it happen. I'll do my part.

it just makes me so happy to see Obama in office, cuz I think people are getting sick of being told NO...and we ALL deserve the sme rights. People would NEVER say to 2 Black people that they can't get married...why say it to gay people?????
The protest outside of the temple in Oakland led to the CHP closing down freeway off-ramps for safety of the pedestrians. And now that my funeral duties are over, know that I will be out there. All you have to do is check out Stop 8 for the latest happenings.
Oh, and back to that issue of African Americans, I'd love to share this.
When I arrived at my dad's house Friday morning so that I could attend my stepmother's funeral, my dad was finishing up breakfast with his younger brother and my stepbrother. My dad asked, as I was sitting down to the table, "70 percent? How could 70 percent of African Americans support this?" And so the rest of us tried to explain to him. My dad's response? "It just doesn't seem to me that something that is a civil right should be a ballot initiative." And then I remembered that I am who I am because of my family -- folks who have always been about acceptance.
They are also folks who are about educating others. So I just hope that there is a part of the plan that includes community outreach. Because even if the courts decide one way, there will never be acceptance without outreach. And then the battle will continue ad infinitum.
When protesting at the Mormon temple, instead of placing protest signs on any building or structure (which might get you into trouble), why don't protesters project "HATE" on the exterior of the building using a high-powered light...Batman style!
A few years ago, protesters in Washington DC used this approach when the Corcoran Museum backed out of a plan for a Mapplethorpe exhibit. The protesters projected the Mapplethorpe images on the exterior of the building!

I am from Canada and I must say this decision is not fair and not constitutional. How could people want to eliminate someone's right out of fear of the unknown, without any true statistical poofs? This is way crazy! I do not hope that the USA will become a theocracy, or the world will come to an end, that is for sure!
