Wedding Luncheon
Today my restaurant hosted a small post-wedding gathering for two newly-married gals! The adorable couple was surrounded by family (included kids) and I couldn't stop smiling every time I saw them.
And, dontcha know, that one of the women wore pants and a man's tailored shirt (in white, natch) - while the other wore a dress and carried a lovely wedding bouquet (Ellen bless 'em!). I just wanted to hug and squeeze them for being so friggin' awesome.

A Historic Day For New York
Today's the day! Legal same-sex marriages began in New York at midnight, and the first to get hitched were Kitty Lambert (left) and Cheryle Rudd - who tied the knot in Niagara Falls at 12:01 am. From The Daily What:
“By the power vested in me by the laws of the state of New York I now pronounce you legally married,” said Niagara Falls Paul A Dyster, who presided over the couple’s civil ceremony, shortly after the clock’s struck midnight.
Today also happened to be the 12th anniversary of Lambert and Rudd’s first date.
“This is one of the most incredible moments of my personal life,” Lambert said before the ceremony, “but it’s also an incredible moment for New York."
Congratulations to Kitty (btw - best lesbian name EVAH) and Cheryle - and ALL the happy couples getting married today.

I REALLY ❤ New York
New York state judges are volunteering by the dozens to officiate at the first same-sex marriages on Sunday, July 24th. From the New York Times:
From Buffalo to the Bronx and pretty much everywhere else in New York, judges are signing up for rare Sunday duty. If same-sex couples want to marry that Sunday, only judges would have the authority to dispense with the 24-hour waiting period required by law. And those judges could then officiate on the spot. Another of the volunteer judges, Sherry Klein Heitler of State Supreme Court in Manhattan, said she was expecting something of a party at the city clerk’s office. “I think there will be a lot of people,” Justice Heitler said. “I think there will be a lot of emotion. I think there will be a lot of happy tears.”

George & Farid Want To Get Married
From Freedom To Marry (via JMG):
“Farid and George have been in a loving, committed relationship for over 10 years, doing the hard work of marriage – in addition to the hard work of owning a successful restaurant business together – yet without the support and respect marriage would provide,” said Evan Wolfson, Founder and President of Freedom to Marry. “They have wanted to marry for years, but with a baby on the way, they feel even more strongly the need for the critical safety-net that marriage brings. New York couples like Farid and George want the freedom to marry, a super-majority of New Yorkers want them to have it, and the New York state legislature should pass the marriage bill - now.”

Just "Marriage"
I completely agree with this statement - however there's a pretty good chance I've "gay parked" a car before.

19-Year-Old Iowan Discusses His Family
Any time a bigot opens his or her piehole and spews words of hate about Gay Marriage, he/she should be forced to watch this video of Zach Wahls proudly discussing his two moms:

Save The Date: I'm Getting Gaymarried in Hong Kong!
I read yesterday that a McDonald's in Hong Kong will soon do weddings, so I sprang into action and began preparing for my Big Gay Fast Food Wedding. This is what's still on my bridal "Things to Do" list:
- Kidnap my future husband, actor Franky G.
- Convince Mr. G that he is no longer straight.
- Make sure the Big Mac canapés served at the reception don't have pickles. I HATES pickles.
- Check with the Arby's of Middle Village, Queens to see if they will make me a better offer.
- Three words: WEDDING CAKE TASTING
So, who's up for a road trip???

Cristiano Ronaldo Endorses Same-Sex Marriage
Portugal legalized gay marriage last month, and Portuguese soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (above) thinks it's a good thing, saying:
"The Portuguese man that I am, I try to keep informed about what is happening in my country. I know the law was passed and the comment it deserves is that we must respect the choices made by anyone, because, after all, all citizens should have the exact same rights and responsibilities."
If this is Cristiano's coy way of asking me to gaymarry him, the answer is an emphatic "YES!". FYI: We will be registered at Dollar General and Midtown Wines & Liquor.

Calen For Congress
I know many of you saw this video yesterday, but I think it should be posted on EVERY blog - gay, straight or whatever. I love how young Calen is able to think through the information presented to him ("husband and husband") and come to the natural conclusion - THEY LOVE EACH OTHER. That's all.
If a child can understand this so easily, why can't the Wingnuts?

Help Mikey & Earl Win Their Ultimate Wedding
Dan and Bob blogged about Crate & Barrel's Ultimate Wedding Contest today, and it reminded me that I've gotten a couple of emails from another gay couple in the contest (as well as a Tweet from one of their friends) - and I wanted to give them a hand.
I'll let Mikey (above, left) do the talking...
Hi, David! I hope you're well.
As you might know from the e-mail I sent last week, my fiance Earl and I got engaged on Valentine's Day (you can see the proposal HERE) and we've subsequently entered Crate & Barrel's Ultimate Wedding contest. In just one week - thanks to the help of friends, family and online communities - we've managed to make it to the number four spot. A week ago, we hadn't even cracked the top 100.
We're trying to keep the momentum going, so we hope you'll help us out by posting our contest entry on your site. Winning couples aren't chosen just on votes, but also on the originality of the stories submitted to the contest, which you can read on our ENTRY PAGE.
Do we think we deserve to win this? Not more than anyone else in the contest. In fact, if anyone deserves to win it's the couple who is currently in first place. The groom has cancer - and they have a very touching story. We have publicly vowed that if we do happen to win, we'll split the top prize with this couple, if Crate & Barrel will allow it. You can see our promise HERE, and we plan to live up to it.
Thanks in advance for whatever you can do to help us get the word out about our entry, the other couple and marriage equality in general.
Kind Regards,
Mikey Rox
Ok BunnyNation - you know what to do. Let's help these two cute kids win ... and spread awareness that non-opposite marriages are just as Crate & Barrel-worthy as any other! Go HERE to vote now!

12 Reasons Why Gay Marriage Should Be Illegal
Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.
Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can’t legally get married because the world needs more children.
Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are property, blacks can’t marry whites, and divorce is illegal.
Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.
Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.
Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven’t adapted to things like cars or longer life-spans.
Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a “separate but equal” institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

Thank You Vermont!

Today Vermont became the first state to approve gay marriage via legislation (as opposed to court order). The people's representatives voted, the governor vetoed, and the legislature VOTED TO OVERRIDE HIS REPUBLICAN ASS! Way to go Vermont - you always seem to lead the way on this issue.
Conservatives complain about "activist judges" not listening to the "will of the people" when courts have approved gay marriage in other states. Well LISTEN UP, FUCKTARDS - the PEOPLE (via their elected representatives) made THIS decision.
I have a feeling Dust Bunny Amber and The LeMay girls (below) of Beaver Pond, VT will be getting drunker than usual this weekend...

Now I'm going to round up some Pure Maple Syrup and and a Hot Papi and do my own personal tribute to the great state of Vermont...
