Friday Weigh-In And Thanksgiving Jitters

I have lost my first 20 pounds!, which is three pounds lost since last Friday. I am starting to fit into clothes that I haven’t fit into in ages, which I am extremely happy about. I went to the gym on Wednesday, and walked home on Monday and last night.

I would still like to get to the gym more often, but it is hard to pass up walking because I enjoy it so much. I realize I burn a ton more calories on a Stairmaster, but there is something about walking through this city that I never get tired of. Even when it’s 38 degrees outside.

Next week will be the true test. Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday – no presents, no drama – just show up, pig out, and pass out. I am leaving for Central Pennsylvania on the first Amtrak train on Wednesday morning, and won’t return until Monday afternoon.

In years past the entire long weekend became one big pig-out session, but this year I have vowed to be different. I have told my Dad (who I stay with) not to get the usual “picnic food” – potato and macaroni salad, chicken salad, potato rolls, chips, cold cuts, and various cheeses – that he usually gets before I arrive. I plan on heading to the Giant (our local grocery store) and to the Wal-Mart to pick up Weight Watchers-friendly foods. And yes, I said THE Giant and THE Wal-Mart because that’s how we talk back home.

Thanksgiving Day itself is a different story. I will go to Mama Bunny’s house in the morning and help her prepare the annual feast. And there is NO WAY I will deprive myself of cornbread dressing (stuffing) and giblet gravy. Mama Bunny is from Texas, and our Thanksgiving meal reflects her southern roots. Then later I’ll return to Dad’s house where there will be my Stepmother’s stuffing loaves and turkey sandwiches waiting for me. Needless to say, I won’t be counting my points on that day.

What are your plans for Thanksgiving?...

You are doing so well! I'm proud of you for that and for your planning ahead like that! No counting point on T-Day! Enjoy!

I'm getting rid of so much clutter from my house that I'm already feeling better.

Way to go!!

Great job!

Congratulations. I think even though you have thoughts of pigging out, you actually will not go through with it. After the compliments start rolling in, You're going to want to stay on course....

Keep up the good work!

Thanks everybody! You all really keep me motivated. I will literally stop myself (sometimes) before pigging out and say "wait, I have to report my weight to the BunnyNation on Friday". Believe it or not, it works for me.

XOXOXO

P.S. - Mike, I WILL be pigging out. Besides, no one from home will notice my weight loss, because I weighed less last year. So this 20 is simply weight I've gained SINCE last year. :(

17 people at my house.
AND Gorilla Boy and Eldest Son home from college. :-) That's the most important part of my Thanksgiving. Happy dancing!

This is just great but are you eating at all?
I lock my door and pull the shades on holidays. hate 'em. I don't accept invitations because I hate hunting for housegifts and I don't want to set up expectations for ensuing years. I like me parades on TV, usually make a big ass prime rib/mashed potatoes, and this year, will attempt to bake a pie on my own. so there.
But you have a wonderful time down home.

I have 11 total coming to South Florida (actually 9 because my children barely eat anything) and we are frying the Turkey (very healthy I know). I will try to avoid the land mines as well but I make no promises.

My mother holds Thanksgiving in an iron grip, so we're there. Dad's family is joining us, which means we'll have about 28 people there, including the three newest babies. Yay! Babies!

I'm not going to deny myself, but I plan to keep it reasonable and take the kiddos for a walk after dinner. Added bonus: I get out of dishes.

Give Mama Bunny a hug from all the Dust Bunnies!

20 pounds? That's awesome! Keep it up. Don't fret Thanksgiving. Enjoy it, know your limits, remember your flex points and know that the day after is a new day and you can get right back on track.

My Thanksgiving will be spent here at home. My sister is coming over, we're cooking dinner for my mom. Usually we go to my sister's but this year I decided that we would do things here and save my mom the hassle of climbing stairs, getting in and out of the car and not being in the comforts of her own home. This will be the first time that my sister and I have cooked together. I think it will be fun!

Congrats on the weight loss! It's a great motivator to know that the weight will come off, so Thanksgiving is a well-deserved break.

I'm going to eat Thanksgiving at my f-i-l's house on Thursday (he didn't invite my mom & uncle because he feels unappreciated for what he's done for them...but since he hasn't bothered to tell them what he's done for them, they don't know to thank him anyway), then lunch with my m-i-l on Friday (she's feeling old, hence the lunch) and then we're tentatively going to bring my mom & uncle down for the weekend so that they're here for Devi's church dedication (if we can reach them).

All this, and I still have tons of homework to do. Yay.

omg @ 20 pounds!!! you have done so well, david! you will be a skinny bitch in no time... i hope you 'remember us when', LOL. i will miss you while you're in central PA, but pls bless us w/ many many pics, ok?

oh also, CORNBREAD DRESSING FOR THE WIN!!! i love mama bunny even more now...

my plans for t-day are to hang w/ my bff, her husband, and his mom (my only 'family' in atl) and cook! we're doing turkey, mashed potatoes, roasted glazed sweet potatoes, green bean casserole & squash casserole, regular stuffing, sauteed spinach, and ambrosia. for dessert, i am going simple and making macaroons and some spiced berry sauce for some vanilla ice cream.

then, i plan on passing out for a few days, LOL.

You won't miss me too much - I'm sure I'll still blog while at my Dad's. I managed to do it last year (when no one was reading my blog yet).

Congratulations David! Way to go!

I am eating everything this Thanksgiving too. My strategy is to eat lots of veggies with a nice helping of turkey, and small portions of mashed potatoes and stuffing. MMMM I love stuffing.

After dinner I'm going for a walk and then to a movie with the family. And no I won't be having popcorn. I'd rather have leftovers after.

don't nobody want to hear your weight loss story. some of us can't lose weight no matter what. oh well, i'm actually not trying very hard. i don't even have a scale. i got go to my fb's apt. to weigh myself.

because we are FOB immigrants, we don't do turkey, but we might get a duck that night.

Yay, good for you, sweetie!

And...what's wrong with the Giant? We shop there too, but mostly Superfresh.

We're going over to my M-i-L's, as we always do. She makes the turkey and the green bean casserole, my B-i-L makes the stuffing, and Neal and I make the rest of the veg (corn pudding, brussels sprouts sauteed with lemongrass oil, cranberry sauce, sweet potato gratin) and the gravy. My brother brings the beer, and then we commence to eating and then falling asleep during the football game. I love Thanksgiving :)

Renee - You are kicking ass!

I was bad this weekend. I had drinks on Saturday - and pigged out today (Sunday). :(

I totally pigged out today too. I couldn't help it- I was so hungry. Oh well, at least I got a lot of exercise too.

Congrats sug, I'm very impressed.

I need to go on a diet but Ive decided to wait until Richard Simmons shows up with a forklift and a chainsaw to get my fat ass out of my house.

I can't wait for Thanksgiving. This with be my 15th year cooking the turkey. Actually, I cook two turkeys and a ham with all the fixings for about 30 people. Big family, big appetites, everyone wants to take home leftovers. Needless to say, I start cooking a few days in advance.

Happy Thanksgiving David and everyone else.

Although you may overdo it on Thanksgiving (really, who won't?) I know it won't be like in the past for you. Enjoy.

Mark :-)
