Same in France, that's insane all that waste but in fact it's just to justify publicity spaces they sell very expensive in it :(
They actually just decided to stop printing white pages (still available by request).
i use old phone books to dry off overhead projector sheets. this is what we call 'using technology' in the parochial schools.
