A Great Weekend With Mama Bunny

What a wonderful weekend! My darling Mom (AKA “Mama Bunny”) came to visit and we had a blast.

I picked her up from the train station after work Friday, and we decided to have dinner at a Mexican restaurant (Tacos Mexico) in my neighborhood. It was delish.

On Saturday we trekked out to Brooklyn to see the Keith Haring exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum (above). It was fantastic – focusing on Haring’s early work during his first few years here in NYC. Mama Bunny and I are both fans of his work, so it was well worth the schlep to Brooklyn.

Mom also wanted to see a Broadway show – so on Saturday night we attended Priscilla Queen of the Dessert. So.Much.Fun. The show only runs for a couple more weeks, but if you get a chance to see it you really should. “Fabulous” doesn’t begin to describe this production. Also, Nick Adams (below) is in it and shows off his killer bod and wicked smile (which by itself is work the price of admission). Thanks to Amber LeMay (and Russell) for the recommendation.

On Sunday we had brunch with my cousin and her former-boyfriend-now-fiance. They just got engaged a couple weeks ago, so we got to see the ring and had a really nice visit. Then it was back to the train station for Mom’s return trip to PA.

A great time was had by all.

I Love You, Mom

I'd like to wish my Mom - the fabulous Mama Bunny - a very Happy Mother's (Bun)Day. I love you, Mom.

How great is my mother?? Well - she gave ME a gift on Mother's Day!! Yep - I'd been complaining that my cheap Walmart sneakers were killing my feet anytime walked for more than 20 minutes. So my awesome Mom bought me sneakers! Check them out...

Here's a weird thing about me - for some reason I've never felt the need to spend more than $20-30 on sneakers (which I wear every day - including at work). I'm not a penny-pincher - I'll spend money (if I have it) on almost anything. Except sneakers, for some strange reason.

But since these days I'm just shy of 300 pounds (Did I actually just admit that??), my poor feet just can't take it anymore. So the cheap kicks are out, and my new Asics Gels are in. Thank you so much, Mama Bunny!

Finally, a bit of poetry I found on the innerwebz (because if I wrote one it would be epically bad), for my Mom on Mother's Day:

To My Mother

For all the times you gently picked me up,
When I fell down,
For all the times you tied my shoes
And tucked me into bed,
Or needed something
But put me first instead.
For everything we shared,
The dreams, the laughter,
And the tears,
I love you with a "Special Love"
That deepens every year.

Christmas Cookies Are Baked !

Mama Bunny and I successfully baked five different types of cookies yesterday - including our patented Gingerbread Doggy Biscuits:

This cookie (I was trying to make a 'bell') wins the "Ugliest Cookie" Award:

And even though Mama Bunny and I had a couple of cocktails, we luckily never got THIS drunk:

Texts From My Mother ...

The above was an honest-to-Jeebus real text message I received from Mama Bunny yesterday afternoon. Suffice to say I'm EXTREMELY relieved that Mom chose her childhood dream of being Shirley Temple (below), as opposed to becoming a Motorcycle Mama ...

Arby's and Pickled Eggs in PA

Yesterday after arriving at the Harrisburg, PA Amtrak station, I was immediately whisked away by Mama Bunny in the BunnyMobile (above) and taken to my favorite elite, upscale restaurant - Arby's. And since it's a DavidDust tradition for me to take a picture when I dine at my favorite Roast Beefstro ... here is the deliciousness ...

And speaking of deliciousness, later on Mom needed to go to the grocery store - so I took the opportunity to score some Pickled Eggs (a Central PA delicacy) from the Salad Bar...

Yes, they are purple.   And scrumptious.

Incommunicado

After an EXTREMELY exhausting day at work yesterday, I left my damn cell phone on my desk.  Therefore, I have no way of communicating (no house phone, and my roommates aren't around).  I'm not going back to work today (yesterday was a bit much) - but I'm hoping one of my co-workers will bring my phone out to Astoria for me.

In the meantime, I can always be reached via email.

This post is mostly for Mama Bunny, because eventually she's going to wonder why I'm not answering my phone.  I don't want her to panic and jump on an Amtrak train to NYC or anything.  But Mom, if you DO jump on a train, bring some of that delicious Pennsylvania Dutch potato salad I love.  :)

I'm kidding.  DO NOT GET ON THE TRAIN!  STEP AWAY FROM THE AMTRAK TICKET COUNTER!!  I'm fine...

Now I have to go find a pay phone in my neighborhood so I can call in sick at work.

XOXOXOXOXOXO

Happy Birthday To Mama Bunny!

Today is my darling Mother's birthday - please help me in wishing her a very happy day. Here is a picture of us taken a few years ago (when I was a lot thinner). Isn't my Mother adorable?!?

I have to thank Mom for always being there for me - and for insisting that I get help for my depression (more about that later). Thanks Mom - I love you - and Happy Birthday!

Hand-Crafted Birdbaths For Sale

My extremely crafty Mother - the fabulous Mama Bunny - has done it again. She has created another Birdbath-as-Work-of-Art - this time out of various pieces of crystal glassware. You may recall that I featured another of her masterpieces (made out of colorful teapots) HERE.

When asked to describe her fabulous birdbath, Mama Bunny sez:
"The birdbaths are beautiful with floating candles, indoors or out. You can use one as a fabulous centerpiece or plant stand. They are actually quite sturdy and are built to be bottom heavy so they will not tip over. Used outside, this one really sparkles and shines. Looks like a birdbath got it on with a crystal chandelier!"

Embiggen the picture below to see all the fantastic details. These pictures were taken in Mama Bunny's back yard - in front of her fabulous pond...

Wouldn't YOU love to own this fabulous one-of-a-kind birdbath for yourself?!? Well, you can. Mama Bunny has decided to offer a few of her creations for sale (including this one). The cost is $250 each - plus $100 for packing/shipping (it weighs over 2o pounds and must be specially packed). If you can make it to South-Central Pennsylvania, Mama Bunny will help you load it into your car and you'll save on shipping. And she'll probably invite you in for a drink.

Please email me at daviddust@gmail.com for more information. And be on the lookout for Birdbath #2 next week - it even comes with its own bird!

Lunch With The Family

Alternate Title: Non-Awkward Family Photo. From left: Me, Cousin Bunny, Uncle Bunny, Mama Bunny, and Aunt Bunny!

My mom took the Amtrak train to NYC yesterday (from PA) to meet up with my aunt, uncle (Mom's brother), and cousin who are visiting from Texas. I hadn't seen my Aunt & Uncle in over ten years (my cousin and I had dinner here in NYC last year) - so it was great just visiting and catching up. Last night they went to see Avenue Q (I had to work) - but I'm hoping to see Mom again today before she heads back to Pennsylvania. She will probably pop into my job on her way to/from the $20 Manicure/Pedicure place - a bargain she usually takes advantage of when she's in NYC.

Vera Charles & Mama Bunny: Separated At Birth?

Many of you will recognize the picture above of the late, great Bea Arthur portraying Vera Charles in Mame.

Mama Bunny, my dear mother, brought to my attention that one of her recent photos was similar to that of Miss Charles. The photo below is my beloved Mom, during rehearsals for a local production of Lend Me a Tenor. To see more photos of Mama Bunny strutting her stuff onstage, go HERE. She's the one in the sequins and tiara ... natch.
