This story about gay Georgia teen Derrick Martin just tugs at my heartstrings. When we first heard about him, Derrick had gotten permission from his school district to bring his boyfriend to the prom. Yeah Gay!!
But ever since then, the news hasn't been so great. First we learned that Derrick's parents kicked him out of his home, supposedly because OF THE MEDIA ATTENTION.

Then yesterday I read that a student named Amber Duskin (above - with back turned, speaking to Derrick) organized a protest against Derrick outside the county courthouse (full story HERE).
The rally’s organizer, Amber Duskin, sent text messages to high school students Wednesday asking them to show up.
The senior said she asked her high school to return her prom ticket money and does not plan to attend because of Martin.
“I don’t believe in going up there and dancing with gay guys like that,” she said. “It’s also not just him bringing a boy. It was bringing all this attention to it.”
WTF? Amber Duskin supposedly wasn't upset that Derrick is gay - she was upset by all the "attention". Note to Amber Duskin: ORGANIZING A PROTEST brings even more "attention"! Are you really that stupid? No, Amber Duskin, I doubt that you are. So why don't you just say what you really want to say - you hate gay people. After all - you stated you didn't want to "dance with gay guys like that". That is called "homophobia". Learn it ... and OWN it.
Additional Note to Amber Duskin: I have purposefully used your name - AMBER DUSKIN - multiple times so that when some gay/progressive potential future employer or Human Resources person looks you up on The Google, they might just find out what kind of a person you really are. The facts speak for themselves.

Seriously, HOW CAN ANYONE HATE ON THESE KIDS?!? Derrick is an honor student with a full scholarship to college and his boyfriend wears flip-flops and plays the trumpet along the train tracks!! It doesn't get more All-American than that!
One More Note to Amber Duskin: Derrick and Richard probably don't want to dance with you either.

This may be the very best post you've ever written. I learned from you what I did not previously know, that
Derrick has a full scholarship to college. That is his ticket and bless him. May he never look back. May he go out and create a family for himself as so many have before him.
It is interesting how Constance McMillen's bravery was a catalyst to Derrick's situation, and he has been totally admirable in the way he has carried himself.
Amber Duskin is a douche (is it OK to call women douches?) and Amber Duskin should be ashamed of Amber Duskin.

I don't want this to turn to cyber-bullying and hound the poor self repressed girl to death, but I picked up the story for my blog from you, and I suggest that some others might want to do that, too?

Daddy Blade - Great idea. And it isn't cyber bullying when we just state the facts. AMBER DUSKIN organized and anti-gay rally. It is public knowledge and was reported by the local media. She was interviewed and made anti-gay statements. AMBER DUSKIN now has to live with the consequences.
We, as a gay "community", shouldn't let these things pass. If she would have organized the same kind of protest about an Asian, African-American or Jewish prom couple people would have FREAKED OUT.
Imagine if she would have said "I don’t believe in going up there and dancing with A BLACK COUPLE like that". That's racism. What she said - "I don’t believe in going up there and dancing with gay guys like that" is homophobia. She said it, she owns it, and now AMBER DUSKIN must deal with the consequences.

Man, I'm just going to say it FUCK HER! I feel so bad for him. I didn't even get to go to any high school dance because I didn't want shit like this to happen. Love and let love. All these homophobes hiding behind the attention, get to me like these racists hiding behind their tea.
I hope this all works out in a way that Amber Duskin looks a damn fool. I hope his parents loose the love of their son, because they don't deserve it. My heart goes out to Derrick, Constance and every other kid suffering in silence.

i bet she's a teabagger. i looked her up and saw david's and joemygod's post on her. i will repost later to help bring awareness that fear and hatred still separate the current generation of kids who will someday be old enough to vote and make decisions.
where is the kid staying? can we sponsor him or something? i got put out in feb. of my senior year and it was hard making it to june but i did it and if i could help someone else in a sitch like mine i most surely would.

The people I don't forgive are his parents. How could they do such a thing to their child? That girl is next. What a horrible way to go through life - like the Teabaggers. As we know, one of them stalks my blog and makes comments.
