Hey David,
This pic is from Ontario, Canada. The Beer Store began in 1927 and is owned by some of the big beer brewers. They only sell beer. Yeaaaa!! Separate stores sell wine. Then there are Liquor stores that sell everything, which of course the government owns. In the U.S. you guys can run to the corner variety store and grab anything. That temptation would be too much for Canadian beer swillers.

Actually, it varies here by state (and even county). Here in New York we can buy beer at the corner store and at supermarkets. Wine and liquor we must buy at a liquor store (which are privately owned).
In Pennsylvania (where I grew up), you have to buy beer at a "Beer Distributor" (probably like The Beer Store) or you could buy six-packs from a bar. For beer and wine, you must buy from a state-owned liquor store.
And some counties (especially in the South) are "DRY" - meaning NO liquor is sold at all. Not even in bars. THE HORROR!!!

Thanks for the info David. I should not have assumed booze was available everywhere. Those poor dry counties. It's get so hot and humid down there (so I hear) and to have to take a long drive for libations must be torture. No wonder Blanche Devereaux had to turn to sex. She must have grown up in a dry county.
Woops, I just re-read my comment -
In PA, you have to buy LIQUOR and wine at the "State Store" (AKA Liquor Store). But you can't purchase beer there. So weird.
And you're right about those dry counties - those poor people just end up driving to the next county to buy their hootch - and the dry counties don't receive any tax revenue from booze-selling establishments. Dumbasses.
But not selling booze makes the Baby Jeebus happy ... or something.
