This is exactly why, during my teaching career, I would always respond to the the comment, "That's so gay," with asking for a detailed description of why being gay was negative. You'd be amazed how many kids, when asked to defend that ignorance, could not find a single valid reason and signed my pledge to not use derogatory, prejudicial language. Go Ellen!
