Jon-Erik Hexum

Jon-Erik Hexum was a model and actor who burst onto the scene in the early 80's when cast as the male lead on  the NBC series Voyagers!  The show only lasted one season, but by 1984 Hexum was starring in another series - Cover Up - as former model turned CIA weapons expert.  During the taping of that show, Jon-Erik accidentally killed himself while playing with a gun loaded with blanks.  He was only 26 years old.

I was only 15 in 1982, but I remember thinking Jon-Erik Hexum was the most gorgeous man in the world when Voyagers! aired.  Everything about him was perfect - his eyes, his body - and this young gay boy certainly noticed.  I also remember hearing about Hexum's death - and how tragic it was and how upset it made me.

Sadly, we didn't have him around long enough to see him grow older (he would be 53 today). Jon-Erik Hexum will always be as perfectly beautiful as he was in 1984.

I remember when he died and how upset I was too. What a waste! He was perfect! And don't forget his deep sexy voice!!!! That man was blessed with everything!! Eyes, face, body, voice and from what I read about him, he was down to Earth too! I am certain if he had lived, he would have just gotten better with time. Sadly, all we are left with images of what the angels are enjoying now.

As I was scrolling quickly through the usual near-nakedness, I realized I recognized this guy. Both my mom and I had a huge crush on Jon-Erik and we were both extremely sad when he died. He'll always be beautiful.

I'm a big JEH fan, too. My early lust for him helped me realize I was not straight.

I thought he was gorgeous as well, but I was only 9. It's funny though seeing the pics, and I'm just thinking wow he looks so 80s!

His death was the first celeb death that really touched me because he seemed so vital and young when he was alive.

I had forgotten about him! Thanks for the reminder! PS- how does someone kill oneself with a gun full of blanks?

I thought the same about him back them. I loved Cover Up - it always had great music!

A gun loaded with blanks is not shooting live ammunition, but blanks nonetheless use gunpowder and fire a paper or plastic projectile. If held close enough -- say one or two inches away -- from the body, they can cause damage and, in rare cases (as with JEH), even death when held to the head because the paper or plastic projectile fractures the skull, which then causes a fatal brain injury. Typically, firearms loaded with blanks on a movie or TV set are always in the possession of and controlled by a weapons expert; however, in the case of JEH, the gun was just left lying about and the firearms master had left the set for the day. That's why JEH's family was able to sue Twentieth Century Fox successfully because they proved negligence in the issuance and care of firearms on the set.
