Ewwwwww ... I THOUGHT I Smelled Something

According to Gothamist, former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford was spotted on the Applachian Trail NYC subway yesterday afternoon (picture above). Does Mr. Sanford realizes that the subway is a communist plot funded by public money and that the people who run the system are - gasp - union members!?!?  Is Mr. Sanford some kind of secret librul Kenyan or somesuch?!???

Perhaps he was just looking for his next "soul mate"...

Random "Celebrity" Sightings

In the span of two hours yesterday I saw two different "celebrities" (and I use that term extremely loosely) walking on the streets of NYC. First up was American Idol alum Sanjaya Malakar - who is appearing in the Off-Broadway show Freckleface Strawberry The Musical:

I did not take this picture and have no idea who the woman/baby are

The only reason I noticed Sanjaya was because his huge smile gave him away. And I must be honest and tell you that he's actually pretty cute. Don't judge - you had to have been there!

A couple hours later, on my way to the subway, I saw a guy who looked exactly like Bravo's Andy Cohen. This attractive man was well-dressed like Mr. Cohen always is, but something was "off" - he was wearing dorky-cute prescription (?) glasses. I didn't think Andy wore glasses, so I figured this was just some well-dressed, half-blind Queen who looked like Andy Cohen (they're a dime a dozen in this town) and I went on my merry way.

But upon returning home, I decided to pray to The Holy Google and ask for guidance ... "Was that Andy Cohen on the street wearing dorky glasses - or just some hot guy with astigmatism???" And lo and behold my prayers were answered - The Great And Powerful Google showed me this:

That's Andy Cohen (right), wearing the same glasses, at an event with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Seinfeld.

RIP Geraldine Ferraro

Geraldine Ferraro, the first female Vice Presidential candidate of a major political party, has died of cancer at the age of 75. Full story HERE.

I once happened upon Ms. Ferraro at an Upper East Side corner bodega (she lived nearby). Ferraro was purchasing flowers, and seemed extremely friendly with the store employees. And I probably wouldn't have noticed her at all (she looked like most of the white rich ladies on the UES), but her instantly recognizable voice gave her away.

Spotted At The Dollar Store

After work I decided to get some exercise (I know, right?!?), so I walked to my old standby Dollar Store (which is a 1 1/2 mile trip).  Upon entering I immediately spied a tall and handsome HOTTAY who was inspecting the eggs more thoroughly than the Department of Agriculture.  For the purposes of this post I will simply call him A.M., because when the names of certain "actors" from a particular genre of "movies" get mentioned on the blog, my advertisers (and the pennies I get from it) tend to go away.

And just to prove that I don't make these things up, here is a grainy cell phone pic of A.M. purchasing his basket of dairy products.

NOTE:  Unfortunately if you use his name in the comments I'll have to hit the "REJECT" button on your ass.  I REALLY need those advertising pennies!!!

My Evening With Jesse Tyler Ferguson

I think Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson (above) was stalking me this week ...

On Wednesday night while walking home I passed him on 8th Avenue.  He looks exactly like he does on television (unlike some other actors), and you can see that bright red hair/beard a block away.  Jesse was wearing ear buds and minding his own business, and of course no one bothered him (we're cool like that in NYC).

Then, after I got home, I turned on the television and there was Jesse again - on Modern Family.  And, later, the cast of Modern Family made an appearance on Top Chef Masters - and I saw Jesse again.  STALKER!!!

Seriously Jesse - don't make me call the authorities...

Reality Show Celebrity Sighting - Bebe Zahara Benet

On my way home from work last night (yes, I walked again), I spotted RuPaul's Drag Race Season One winner Bebe Zahara Benet.  She was with a male companion and was exiting a building on 8th Avenue in the Garment District.

Bebe wasn't really in full drag - but she was rocking a somewhat androgynous (yet casual) look in denim jeans and a short jacket.  Miss Zahara Benet is quite stunning in person , I might add.

Celebrity Sighting - David Duchovny

While walking home tonight I passed David Duchovny and his adorable young daughter leaving a restaurant.  I thought maybe David might look a little "haggard" in person (he'll be 50 this summer), but I couldn't have been more wrong.  I'm here to tell you that David Duchovny is QUITE the hottie!

Spotted in NYC - Top Chef Harold Dieterle

I saw Top Chef Season One winner Harold Dieterle in the CVS near his Perilla Restaurant yesterday - and he was shopping in the FOOD aisle. What kind of culinary delights was he buying at CVS?

But I didn't have time to stick around and stalk - I had to get back to work. When I got to my desk I Twattered this ...

Just saw Top Chef season 1 winner Harold Dieterle at CVS. He grabbed a basket and headed 4 food aisle. Why is he buying food at CVS??

Blogger/Recapper Cliff O'Neill attempted to answer my question in a return twat tweet:

cliffoneill cliffoneill @ DavidDust New Gristides-style challenge perhaps?

LOL! Excellent answer!! But there is actually a Gristedes grocery store closer to Perilla than CVS is - so I have no idea what Harold was shopping for. Maybe he is creating a new dessert using CVS Gold Emblem Gummy Bears...

After all, they're "imported" ... from Secaucus, New Jersey.

NYC Celebrity Sighting - Kiefer Sutherland

OMG - I just passed Kiefer Sutherland on the street! As I was walking toward my restaurant a few minutes ago, I saw a man get out of a cab and pause for a moment in front of my job. As I got a little closer I noticed it was Kiefer Sutherland, and he had stopped so a delivery man could take a cell phone picture of him. Jack Bauer was dressed in jeans and a plain white t-shirt, cigarette dangling from his mouth, and he was smiling from ear-to-ear. Then he went on his merry way, right past me - still grinning.

I have to say this ... Jack Bauer is shorter in person than I thought. Although he may not be tall, here are some "true facts" you may not know about Jack Bauer...

Jack Bauer once forgot where he put his keys. He then spent the next half-hour torturing himself until he gave up the location of the keys.

Jack Bauer sleeps with a gun under the pillow. But he could kill you with the pillow.

Jack and Jill went up the hill. Only Jack came down. Jill was a f*cking terrorist.

NYC Celebrity Sighting - Sean Combs

On my way home from work tonight I saw Sean "Puff Daddy P Diddy Doo Wah Diddy Diddy Dum Diddy Doo" Combs with his son. I was standing on the corner across from my apartment on 9th Avenue when I heard a loud but weirdly familiar voice. I looked over, and there was Diddy and his son Christian (age 11 - with his dad above) - talking and eating vanilla ice cream cones in a convertible (with the top down). Diddy was driving, his son was in the passenger seat, and two huge Escalades (his security team) were following him closely. I was so close I could have walked over and shook PuffDiddyDoodieDoo's hand, but I'm sure the Escalade guys would have stopped me pretty quickly.

I've seen Diddy before (at a few events YEARS ago), and I must say - he has aged well. Combs is by no means gorgeous, but he is more handsome than I remember. Besides, I am a total sucker for a man hanging out with his kids - there is just something just so adorable about that for me. And Diddy looked like he was having a great time talking to his son, eating ice cream, and driving through Hell's Kitchen.

I tried to get my cellphone out to take a picture, but I was carrying bags from the Veggie Market and JCPenneys, so I couldn't get my act together before the light turned green and Diddy drove down the avenue...

Harassing The King Of Pop

For years I worked part-time at a tiny East Side restaurant – answering the phones and taking orders for delivery. The restaurant is now closed, but I made some good friends who I still keep in touch with today.

One of these friends is Shanta – who I became roommates with for a time. Shanta and I did the same job at the restaurant so we rarely worked on the same nights. But we always shared our nightly dramas after we returned to the apartment for the evening

One night Shanta was working at the restaurant and I was home. When she got back to the apartment, she casually mentioned that she saw a “Michael Jackson Lookalike” hanging out in the hallway of the restaurant building. This intrigued me, so I made her sit down and tell me the whole story.

The building that housed the restaurant had two entrances – one for the restaurant, and another for the tenants who lived upstairs (similar to the picture above). The employees also used the tenant's entrance – which led to a small hallway with a back door to the restaurant, and the staircase that led up to the apartments above. During her shift that night, the Spanish-speaking delivery guys kept laughingly telling Shanta that “Miguel Yacksun” was in the hallway. She was busy and didn’t pay too much attention – especially since the guys were known to play practical jokes. But eventually her curiosity got the best of her, and Shanta went out into the hallway to take a look.

When she opened the back door, she saw a tall, thin figure peeking through the door window which looked out onto the street – like he was waiting for something/someone. Shanta took note that this man’s outfit was FIERCE, and she thought to herself: “Damn, this Queen spent a lot of money to look like the King of Pop!”.

The man payed her no mind, so after a few seconds, Shanta (who has never been shy) finally said “Excuse me!” to try and get his attention. She had to repeat herself a few times, practically yelling (“Excuse Me!! … EXCUSE ME!!!!!) before the man took his eyes from the window, and slowly turned around to look at her.

When he turned around, Shanta was immediately frozen by his “scary” (her words) eyes. She impatiently asked him “Are you a look-alike?!?” – to which he responded only with a nod “yes”. He never spoke. After he nodded, he turned back around and continued looking out the window, and Shanta went back in to work.

By the time she got back to the apartment, Shanta had convinced herself that she had NOT seen Michael Jackson and that the man was indeed a look-alike. After all, what in the HELL would MJ be doing in a dingy hallway on East End Avenue?!? She was freaked out by how this man looked (especially his eyes), but logic dictated that the King of Pop wouldn’t ever be by himself in non-elevator, non-doorman apartment building.

Shanta relayed this whole story to me – and it took me a while to process all this information. When she finished, I replied to her:

“Shanta, do you realized you harassed the King of Pop this evening?!?”

It WAS INDEED Michael Jackson in that dingy hallway – and I knew so for two reasons. First of all, I was always a reader of the NYC tabloids and all the celebrity gossip, and I knew Jackson was in town for a (relatively) rare NYC appearance that week. But that alone was no reason to just assume that this man was Michael.

They way that I KNEW this was Michael Jackson was because I remembered that gossip/journalist Flo Anthony lived upstairs in the building we worked in. Miss Anthony (who is a total sweetheart, btw), always maintained a friendship with Michael and the Jackson family. Michael was in the building visiting Flo that evening, and went downstairs to wait briefly for his driver after the visit was over. Remember, this was in the days before everyone had cell phones.

Years later, Flo confirmed to me that Michael had indeed visited her in her apartment. Which means that Shanta did INDEED harass the King of Pop that night.

Blind Item...

Which former Daddy of the Day (who once made a guest appearance on one of my favorite shows) had lunch at my restaurant today ... with a young woman who was DEFINITELY not his wife? The manager heard the beautiful notwife say "I love you too" during their meal, and not in a brotherly way...

My Walk Home

I walked home again last night, but this time I thought I would pay attention to what happened and blog about it. I even took some pictures (although some of the pics below were found on The Google).

Less than 2 minutes after starting my walk, I spied chef Mario Batali on his Vespa scooter - wearing shorts and those ridiculous orange Crocs...

A few blocks later, in Chelsea, I saw drag entertainer Raven O. She is hard to miss...

I passed the OMG(!) Jeans Store. However, I think this store pre-dates the Internet - so I'd love to know what O.M.G. really stands for...

As I often do, I stopped by my favorite Dollar Store - Jack's 99 Cents on 32nd Street...

At that point I REALLY had to pee - so I zipped over to Macy's on 34th Street to use the facilities. Macy's was the location of my first NYC job, so I know where all the bathrooms are in the enormous store...

Then I remembered that Penn State was playing for the NIT championship at Madison Square Garden last night, so I stopped by and took pictures of the students entering the arena...

At one point I was trying to get a picture of a hottie student who was trying to buy tickets, when this cute Papi walked up to me and exclaimed "TAKE MY PEET-CHUR!!". When a cute Papi tells me to do something, I do it - and I LOVE the pose...

After I left Madison Square Garden, I headed up 8th Avenue - still one of the classiest thoroughfares in the city...

Still heading north, I had to fight my way through crowds of tourists making their way to the various Broadway theaters...

With a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye, I passed the space that used to be my favorite go-go boy bar - Stella's. It is now an Irish pub for straight tourists...

The "Cellar Bar" arrow (below) is pointing directly to where I used to sit and fondle watch the go-go dancers...

Finally, after more than an hour of walking and detours, I made my way to the front door of my glamorous building. Home sweet home...

NYC Celebrity Street Sightings

I am often lucky enough to spot celebrities here on the streets of NYC, and many times I blog about it. In fact, my "Celebrity Sighting" posts this week prompted a little discussion as to why I don't speak to these famous people when I see them.

First of all, as I've said before - I'm a big wuss. Unlike my blog persona, in real life I am actually quite shy and reserved around strangers. But the main reason I don't speak to street-walking celebrities is because real New Yorkers NEVER make a fuss over famous people on the street. We leave that to the tourists. Besides, a real New Yorker thinks he or she is just as important as Tara Reid or Rodney Allen Rippy.

Below are just a few celebs I've spotted during my 16+ years in NYC. BTW - all pictures were obtained via Google - I did NOT take any of them.

Project Runway's Tim Gunn in the Garment District. He looked absolutely adorable...

Cute and hilarious papi John Leguizamo - with his wife at my local A&P supermarket. John's stank wife was loudly complaining to the cashier about whether a box of pasta was on sale or not. John kept telling her to forget about, but she wouldn't let it go and he looked absolutely humiliated...

Paul McCartney and his then-wife Heather Mills walking on 57th Street in Midtown. It was pretty cool to get a glimpse of one of the world's biggest stars - live and in person. And seeing Paul McCartney was neat too...

Country music stars Faith Hill and Tim McGraw with their kids on Central Park South. Tim McGraw is HOT...

Good Morning America's Sam Champion, holding hands on 8th Avenue with his (rumored) boyfriend Sean Bell (below left). Quite the handsome couple...

I've seen Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker multiple times near my job in the Village - which is where they live.

But by far the most important "celeb" I ever saw was the late John F. Kennedy, Jr. And I was fortunate enough to see him TWICE.

The first time I saw JFK Jr., he rode his bike onto the sidewalk directly in front of me. He was wearing a business suit and was probably on his way to/from the offices of his magazine - George. I had walked out of my office building and all of a sudden JFK was about six feet in front of me. I froze and without thinking I uttered these words - LOUDLY:

"OH MY GOD! It's JFK Junior!" So much for being a cool New Yorker and not making a fuss. Jackie O's baby boy definitely heard me - because he looked up, smiled, and kept on biking...

The second time I saw Junior, he was rollerblading - SHIRTLESS - on 8th Avenue. "Beautiful" doesn't begin to describe how incredibly handsome he was...

One of these days I'll share some stories of the celebrities I encountered through my former Events Management jobs at the Hard Rock Cafe and (the now defunct) Motown Cafe.

Celebrity Sighting Part Two - Seth Myers

My second celebrity sighting in two days!! I just walked past Saturday Night Live's Seth Myers on Waverly Place in the Village.

And let me tell you something - Seth is really attractive! He was dressed very casually and had some scruff on his face - which made him look less boyish and very butch. He was much cuter in person than he is on TV.

"Celebrity" Sightings: Project Runway's STELLA!!

I actually walked my fat ass home from work these past two days, and last night - while walking up 8th Avenue in Chelsea - I walked right past Stella Zotis from Project Runway. She looked really good (seriously) and was walking a dog. And NO, I didn't say anything - because I never say anything to anyone on the streets of NYC. Even if he's a hot Papi and his name is Franky G.

After seeing Stella at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Project Runway Show a couple of weeks ago, and now yesterday on the street - I kinda feel bad that I referred to her all last season as "Burnout Stella". Sorry darling.

And when I did a Google Image search for pictures of Stella, I came across a portrait that my new Blog Buddy Gilmore had created and posted on his great blog - Pretty On The Outside (below).

Please check out Pretty On The Outside HERE. Yesterday he posted portraits of the American Idol judges which are just too funny.

Model Sightings

It's Fashion Week in NYC, and I saw this model - former Papi of the Day Julian on the street over the weekend. He was no doubt in between fashion events, and was wearing a shiny new pair of Timberlands - like the ones he's wearing above. I LOVE a Papi wearing his "Tims"...

Random Celebrity Sightings

In the past few days I have seen three "celebrities" here on the streets of NYC. And trust me, these three couldn't have been more random or unrelated.

First of all, I saw Historian Barry Lewis, who - along with David Hartman (below) - does those great "Walk" specials for PBS. They have done "A Walk Around Brooklyn", "A Walk Through Queens", "A Walk Through Harlem" and "A Walk Up Broadway". Actually, now that I think about the NYC-specificness of the series, I think this might be a local thing. Well anywhoo, Barry is a celebrity in my book.

Secondly, I saw Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson walking out of one of the gorgeous new condo buildings in my neighborhood (he must live there). Kenan is a big boy, but he is cute as hell up close. Plus, he knows the international Dust Bunny greeting ... Peace, bitch...

My favorite Kenan skit on SNL is "Deep House Dish" (below). Kenan plays the Host, DJ Dynasty Handbag, and cutie Andy Samberg plays his Co-host T-Shane. Bokay?!?!!

Finally, I saw Top Chef Season one winner Harold Dieterle (below) yesterday. He walked right past my restaurant - no doubt on his way to HIS restaurant, which is in the neighborhood.

Many people talk about how handsome Harold is - and I thought so too - until I saw him in person. The picture below is a much more accurate portrayal than the one above...
