Things That Are Gay - NYC's Easter Parade

The annual Easter Parade in NYC isn't really a parade - there are no floats or marching bands or politicians shaking hands.  However, like a traditional parade, NYC's Easter Parade DOES have "beauty queens" - many of the male variety.

The Easter Parade tradition started in the 1800's.  After Easter services ended at all the churches on Fifth Avenue, churchgoers strolled up and down the avenue showing off their Sunday finest.  The women, especially, liked to display their elaborate Easter hats.

This tradition continues with the city shutting down Fifth Avenue so people can meander around and take pictures of each other's Easter Bonnets.  The parade has become TRES gay ... with just as many men as women sporting festive chapeaus.

This year a handful of gay protesters demonstrated outside St. Patrick's Cathedral - receiving applause and support from the Easter Paraders.
