Learn It!

You Project Runway fans out there probably already know bloggers Tom and Lorenzo.  Their site, Tom & Lorenzo - Fabulous & Opinionated (formerly Project Rungay) covers all things Project Runway - as well as fashion and other TV shows which interest them.

One thing Tom and Lorenzo are NOT, is political. They don't break into their regularly-scheduled fabulousness to tell you the latest about Prop 8 or DADT - not that they're not interested in those things, but it's just not the purpose of their blog.

However, one of the Project Runway designers became a big, whiny bee in Tom & Lorenzo's bonnet last week - and they let him have it.  And it was delicious.

First of all, some background.  Jason Troisi (above) is a straight fashion designer who was selected to be on this season's Project Runway.  During week #1 he sent a horrible STAPLED-together garment down the runway.  And last week, during the "Design A Garment for a Marie Claire Billboard" challenge, he created a nasty piece of grossness which was held together with safety pins.  Exhibit A:

This was how the garment was photographed for a potential Marie Claire billboard!  Ridiculous, right?!?  Well, Jason blamed everyone besides himself for his fashion crime - his model ("not a runway model") and Marie Claire (not a "tough" magazine), among other things.

But the straw that broke Tom and Lorenzo's fabulous backs was the fact that Jason - after receiving (much-deserved) criticism from Tim Gunn - had the nerve to blame society and the fact that he is STRAIGHT...
"I'm a straight man in a gay man's world,"

Oh.No.He.Di.Int...

Tom & Lorenzo's response was so epic, so well-written, and so POLITICALLY spot-on - that I had to copy it verbatim:
Listen, a&&hole. When you are barred from marrying, adopting children, serving in the military, visiting your spouse in the hospital, or even joining the f%cking Boy Scouts, you get the right to whine about how unfair life is. When packs of gay men go around taunting, beating and even killing straight men, you get to whine about how unfair life is. When political parties use you as both a punching bag and a fundraising tool without ever doing anything to improve your lot in life or even ensuring that you have basic civil rights, you get to whine about how unfair life is. When Tim Gunn points out your piece of sh*t dress is a piece of sh*t dress, you thank him for the critique, get back to work, and try to salvage the mess you made.

i re-posted it in their comments (as did a lot of commenters) and gave them a standing O, too! it is deliciously epic and completely inarguable. not to mention, oh so well-deserved: jason was a total troglodyte.

If you get a chance Blogging Project Runway has an interview up with him and he has a whole new reason to blame (along with several sidebar issues) but apparently it is all the fault of being ADD and the producers would not accommodate him - interestingly he used the same language that I hear in education all the time.

Loves Tom and Lorenzo - their rant was spot on - glad you reposted it.

@froggy thanks for the tip ~ i googled and read the article... *sigh* it is a further signal of his delusion that in the video (which i saw on friday) and the article, he's still blaming others and defending that tragic ass tragedy of a dress!

Excellent! Love it! That was perfect. Oh yes, I've heard all that so many times from students. It's never their fault, is it? Sheesh!

I thought their critique seemed well-balanced, however, just before they launched into the 'when Tom Gunn' bit I would have added: "When you get to pay all your taxes and STILL that shit happens to you, THEN you get to whine."

When arguing with bigots I think it's always a good idea to point out you pay the same taxes as them and, given that you're not getting the same deal, ask which rights they would like to give up in the spirit of fairness.

I can't believe I missed all that! I wonder if I can find time to Hulu the episode from Europe! Their response was classic!
