I'm A Busy Bunny!

No posting until later today - I have a bunch of stuff to get done here at work. In the meantime, please wish our darling Joy - The Grand Duchess of the Dust Bunnies - a very Happy Birthday!

Also - I didn't watch the debate last night because I had to work. What did you all think? Did I miss anything? Feel free to discuss in the comments.

Love the pic!!

Palin (aka "Bible Spice" - h/t Pam's House Blend) was pathetic. As Anonymous Liberal said, Admiral Stockdale was better! And WTF with the winking??? Freak.

I have a friend who has decided to vote for her because she has such a cute and fresh personality. I didn't believe I had friends like that. Lord I know I'm a senior citizen but I never thought I was desperate about it.

"Bible Spice" is HILARIOUS!

Charlie - WOW. I didn't realize a "cute and fresh personality" were important traits for a potential leader of the free world!

"Deer in the headlights" would be too easy a description for Palin.
I liken her "performance" to an episode of the Brady Bunch in which Cindy went on a tv quiz show. Cindy froze-up staring directly at the camera and couldn't move or speak.
Palin spoke, but the frozen stare was one and the same. Did she even blink? If only her voice froze up too. Ugh!

RE: Her wanting to expand VP legislative powers = very scary,...but, I think she wants to mandate dropping the "g" in words that end with "ing" . Gawd, drives me crazy and I won't even go to her policies which are so ignorant is it unbelievable.

I would really like never, ever to hear again the phrases -
Joe Sixpack
Kitchen table
Bless anyone's heart
Hardworking Americans
Working class
Working families

I would like to hook the candidates up to shock meters and zap them every time they pander with those phrases.

crabbily yours, :-)

i prefer "caribou barbie" as her nickname, LOL, but bible spice is very effective. there is so much, too much really, to go into specifics here, but i am going to repost my comment from perez:

"i think that they both had high points and low points, but overall, the winner was biden by a lot for me. he was measured, articulate, specific, and succinct. conversely, palin, when she knew the answer to a question, spoke like an articulate woman from wasilla, AK. when she didn't, she slipped into borderline buffoonery that wasn't 'joe six-pack' so much as it was a rambling impression of a southern stereotype.

furthermore, her lack of formality, for me, was not only disingenuous, but also inappropriate. a debate is not the time for winks, smirks, or shout-outs; however, if this was 2000, or even 2004, i feel that her tricks would have gone over much better than they did. right now, though, there is too much going on in america and the world to rest on personality alone; in short, a bit of a subdued attitude was called for last night and unfortunately, somber is not sarah's strong point. she didn't fall flat on her face, but neither did she make me respect her or her positions. i also felt her flat-out refusal to answer the questions asked was really, really disrespectful b/c it made the debate more about her giving a series of disjointed speeches and less about telling the american people why we should support her. OBAMA/BIDEN 2008!!!"

oh, and PS busy bunny... if you have itunes @ work you can download the debate for free and you can also catch it on cnn.com and cspan.com. in fact, c-span will prob replay it on tv tonight as well as this weekend, so you may want to check there, too, if you're interested in seeing the whole thing. don't work too hard!

What baffled me were all the commentators who said she, "slam-dunked" it. In whose book? She evaded major questions, brought up her "experience" where it wasn't relevant and got the name of an important general wrong! This folksy, "I'm just one of you guys" shit is patronizing and fucking ridiculous. She referred to herself as being a member of the middle class which made me laugh out loud. Plus, her professed respect and admiration got a little old and felt too much like the typical cheerleader bullshit.

Exactly what I expected in other words.

"Gosh Darn It" "You Bettcha" Sarah Palin worked my last liberal and feminist nerve last night. OMG- If I had NOT been at work and playing a drinking game that involved "greed and corruption in Wall Street" I would have been bombed in a quick minute.

Must stop ranting, must stop ranting... I liked how Biden backed her into a corner and made her sound like she supported civil rights for gay and lesbians even though she doesn't...

And enough with pimping out your kids- Biden also has a son in Iraq...

Must stop.. sorry, I am like a psycho on this topic...

Do you think they gave her milk and cookies afterwards? I was so bummed that she would dumb and folksie down...

As a woman, I found it ironic that Palin is slammed as unqualified because women "think with their emotions," but it was Biden who became emotional when speaking of his son. And it made me like him even more when he did. Just hearing Palin say, "Nu-Q-lar" made me crazy and her gosh-darnedness was too Stepford scripted. However, I had a big problem with Biden's answer to the direct question about gay marriage:

"No. Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage."

So, does CHANGE only apply to heterosexuals?

I'm starting to think that I'm only voting for the candidate that I dislike the least.

I thought you didn't want me to talk about politics here! :)

I would argue that she wasn't "pathetic", in the sense that she accomplished much of her mission - to rehabilitate her image and prove she could stand toe-to-toe with Biden.

That said, he did have much better command of details and was clearly "deeper" than her in a legislative sense. The debate format helped her greatly - a real give-and-take would have made her seem even weaker.

I do feel that she's the most like the average person down the street of the four of them. The question for everyone to ask themselves is: Is that enough? Do you like that PTA mom down the street - and would you trust her to make the best judgment calls for everyone?

Or is she just a witch selling cookies?

David Dust said...

Curt - YOU are still not allowed to talk politics... Everyone else can :)

Cuz - Believe it or not, the Obama/Biden position on "gay marriage" doesn't bother me that much. I get it - if they come out right off the bat and say they are "Pro Gay Marriage", the "Joe Six Packs" in places like Michigan and Pennsylvania (where I grew up) will be up in arms. I think we need to have more state victories (MA, CA - VOTE NO ON PROP 8, and eventually NY and others). Once that happens, we can move toward federalized gay marriage.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and if I happen to meet Mr. Right this weekend I can always hop on Amtrak and head to Boston...

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and commentary. I LOVES it when you all talk to me (and each other). What a smart bunch of Bunnies!!!

XOXOXOXO

I would argue that she was pathetic.

She didn't rehabilitate her image. As Andrew Sullivan said - complete sentences didn't help; they only made the lack of any clear statement about anything that much more evident.

She didn't go toe-to-toe with Biden. Just because she didn't shout "I can't do this" and run off the stage (again, not my line . . . I'm afraid it's Joe Klein's) doesn't mean she accomplished anything. If a man had given that performance (minus, one hopes, the winks . . . unless it was the First Dude and he was winking at me) he would've been eviscerated today.

The only reason that she appears to have rehabilitated anything is because the bar was set so microscopically low - approaching zero, but never quite getting there.

That is the cutest picture! I love it!

Bible Spice! LOL

What's bothering me so much is that this is it for the McSame campaign to let Palin appear on TV or other public events. She will campaign to limited groups where they can control things. No press, no questions, nothing. We know why, and it's just wrong.

Well, since I'm banned on the topic...(thanks, David, probably for my own good)...

I'll only say that I cut politicians of all sides - or elected officials, two different animals - a little slack, because it's very easy to sit and criticize...

...but very few people have the cojones to get in the game (more than just showing up once or twice a year) and try and change it.

David & Dust Bunnies- If you have not or are unable to see the Yes on 8 ads in CA, you would, I think, be surprised at how tacky and cheap they are. They are just some photos of Gavin Newsom looking foolish...honestly, they have no real impact and look like they were done on a budget of about $1.50. Also, they are run very infrequently which also indicates they have a limited budget. I am feeling quite sure these have a very limited if any impact on voters.
