Good Friday

Easter was never a big deal with my family growing up. We never really went to church - much to the gentle dismay of my Grandfather, who never missed a Sunday at the First Lutheran and sang in the choir. So after my brother and I became too old to look forward to the Easter Bunny, Easter just became another day.

In Central Pennsylvania many people celebrate Easter with a big ham dinner on Easter Sunday and I still try to get my Easter ham fix here in NYC. Boston Market used to serve really good ham, but they stopped a few years ago. But since I have to "Weigh-In" on Monday (and, diet-wise, I haven't had the best week), maybe I'll skip it this year.

Anybody have big plans this weekend?

First, don't skip the ham dinner. Traditions are called traditions for a reason. Second, what it the strongest alcoholic drink you can think of? My mother is coming to visit for a few days AND I have to see my mother-in-law. Is it dangerous to mix xanax and liquor? Just Askin'

Hoppy Easter!

I'm with you David. After the discovery about the Easter Bunny, the whole day lost it's significance.
It became Ham-and-Potato-Salad Sunday, and that's probably what we'll do.
Have a great weekend.

We are launching an all our assault on Heidi. I have some pink bunny ears and she. will. wear. them. for an adorable picture that we can send to my parents' dog. So far Heidi is being adverse to cute, pink bunny ears. Gorilla Boy may be home... which means the contest will be a draw. Stay tuned.

Easter is a big deal in my family. We go to church as a family and then have a big lunch/dinner. I'm going to miss it this year because of other things, but I usually never miss it. My mother will break out her new Easter hat for church.

Ken is working both Saturday and Sunday, and because of some extended family illnesses, we aren't having a family get-together this year. I will be making a ham for me and Ken, though. Is 7 1/2 pounds too much for two people? LOL Actually, I got it on sale a while back, and it will provide us with plenty of leftovers.

Hope you have a good weekend!

Hugs, Beth

My family made a big deal out of it - church (sometimes even the sunrise service), new Easter outfits, and an Easter Egg hunt. It hasn't been that long since we quit getting together for Easter.

The family gets together on Easter, although at best we could be considered not-practicing Catholics. There is an Easter Egg hunt for all the little ones, and a big dinner. It is exhausting. Thank God they all leave.

Too old to look forward to the Easter Bunny? NEVER!

In fact, my sister LIVES to wake up to a basket of Cadbury goodies!

Visiting the fam for the weekend, and holidays always = high drama. Why watch reality tv, when all I have to do is sit back with a mimosa after everyone's done with brunch? :)

That said, I'm hoping mom's into the idea of chicken & waffles, 'cause if I'm using Easter as an excuse for saying bye-bye to my diet for one day, there better be something to look forward to....

Have a great weekend David! P,b!

I will be sending my nephew off to his mother's in Louisville. Then I'll be joining my mother (and other family members) for 11 o'clock Mass at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension on Washington Street in Old Frankfort. Then we'll go to her aunt's house, out in the countryside, for traditional dinner. I'm making Bendictine Spread, which is big in Kentucky, made of cucumbers and onions and cream cheese. I'll eat everything on the table, then take a nap, then eat again. All rather nice.

Oh yes, we're all about the spiral sliced brown sugar cured ham, scalloped potatoes, and deviled eggs here in Indy. I'm making a green pea salad and cheesecake.

I'm gonna post that pic on my blog Sunday.

Ham, spoonbread and greens - that's what we do here in the mountains of WV. My Virginia-bred mom found greens a bit, sniff, lower class so she usually did broccoli or asparagus with hollandaise. My kids won't eat any of the alternatives so the hubs and I go with what we like (greens with vinegar - yum!) while my mother spins in her grave. Works for us.

Have a great Easter, David.

Easter was always a big family gathering for us, and we had the same kapusta i kielbasy and baked ham as we ate at Christmas. Nowadays, I only make kielbasa every few years, because it gives me intestinal distress. And Neal and I both share a dislike for ham, so it never crosses our threshold.

This year, we're having Neal's meatloaf, and I'm making strawberry trifle for dessert. My in-laws will be coming over, and my Dad and brother. So it's still sort of a big deal, just no Easter baskets for the kids anymore. :)

Dinner with family. We're skipping ham this year and grilling chicken, pork chops, and steak. We're also having veggies, potatoes, and I'm getting a ginormous fruit tray. My sister and her husband will bring some horrible high calorie desserts. Good thing I weigh in on Sunday morning lol!

My mother will break out her new Easter hat for church.

I wonder if Aretha's wearing "the hat" for Easter lol!

Happy Easter everyone!

Personally I prefer roast rabbit, for the healthier diet aspect and show my contempt for another perfectly good pagan holiday hijacked by the christians, like Dies Natalies Solis Invicti or Birthday of the Unconquererable Sun (Son) for christmas, but the bunnies and eggs held their ground and just like X-mass presents took over the whole commercial representation, and to many the sole meaning of the christian imposters. And besides, having grown up in rural Montana raising rabbits the Easter bunnies we got became tasty dinners latter on.
