Goodbye Auntie Vera

Since I took Saturday off from blogging, I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Bea Arthur, who passed away yesterday.

Bea will ALWAYS be Vera Charles to me - Mame's best friend and the "First Lady of the American Theater" in the movie Mame. Bea Arthur and Lucille Ball performing "Bosom Buddies" (below) is absolute perfection.

Miss Charles has gone on to the big Theatre Guild in the sky. And she will be missed...

In the words of Patrick Dennis ... "Goodbye Auntie Vera!"...

Mame, you know I'll be in black till the Dust Bunny weekend in May. It's sad.

"Auntie Mame, is Auntie Vera from England?
"No, Patrick, Auntie Vera is from Pittsburgh."
"Then why does Auntie Vera speak with an English accent?"
"Patrick, darling, when you're from Pittsburgh you have to do SOMETHING!"

She WAS Vera Charles!

I'm sure Bea Arthur is smiling because of the nice piece you wrote about her. The one photo reminded me of something... a rather unflattering photo of your everloving Mama Bunny in rehearsal for "Lend Me A Tenor." Apparently our costumers know each other. http://www.oystermill.com/gallery/2009/pimg.htm
XOXOXO
(Hope you can make this work)

Lucille Ball's version of "Mame" was a truly awful movie. A real stinker.

The passing of a gay icon AND a true talent. Very sad.
