I read in the New York Times yesterday that a middle school in Colorado has banned the wearing of jelly bracelets in school because of their "sexual connotations".
Apparently, each color of the bracelets has a specific sexual meaning - although those meanings can vary from place to place. There are even WEBSITES devoted to this phenomenon - although a few of the sites say that this is more of an urban myth than anything else.
These bracelets totally remind me of the legendary gay "hanky codes" from the 70's and 80's - whereas some men (and women) used various colored bandannas to advertise what they were "into". After all, Craigslist hadn't been invented yet...
I never thought, however, that middle school kids would adopt something similar.

I think that it is a laughable attempt to conceal that fact that Princess will let someone 'shoot off'. Pretty desperate times to be a parent in Colorado.
wow. back in my day the nuns at school banned jelly bracelets (which were neon or black) because madonna was such a BAD influence! anyone who wore them was suspended..times have changed...i guess!
So many people have so much time on their hands. Unreal. Something tells me hormone-raging-teens don't need bracelets to pass on some secret code about sex. LOL.
LOL at Mark's comment! XOXO
I'v eseen the kids at school wearing these, and there was something sexual about them. But come on, isn't EVERTHING sexual when you're 15, 16 yers old??!
XOXOXOXOX
lord...
Middle school kids have hormone-induced brain damage and will do just about anything.
